Getting To Know Jack Edwards

from Puck The Media,

PTM: ...are you kind of glad that ESPN doesn’t cover hockey anymore?

JE: Well, I think that all you need to know is - for those who wish that hockey was back on ESPN - last Saturday, which was probably the single most amazing night of the NHL season.  Just in terms of teams switching places, dramatic things happening, crazy games, that kind of thing.

We went from Toronto to Philadelphia, we were in (Bruins radio play-by-play man) Dave Goucher’s room, having a couple cold ones.  Now, the Sweet 16 is going on in college basketball at the same time, the only hockey we saw in the entire sportscast of “SportsCenter” was about 45 seconds of the UNH-North Dakota game, which was the one UNH tied with one-tenth of a second to go, that went into Overtime.  That was 56 minutes into the telecast.  There was nothing on the NHL in the entire show.

So, for those of you that hope that hockey gets back on ESPN, that’s what you’re gonna’ get.  That’s where it belongs in ESPN’s hierarchy, because there are some bozos sitting in the accounting department in a bunker in Burbank, California running Disney, who look at the numbers and completely ignore the passion of hockey fans.

Edwards is without a doubt an unbelievable homer and a bit off his rocker when doing games, but he’s dead nuts on about this.

Awesome to see him say it.

He may be a schizo homer like this one time but it’s finally nice to see and hear him to say something meaningful about the NHL’s possible return to ESPN.

Nice link SYF, that was really disturbing.

I’m pretty sure I heard Jack Edwards make an offensive statement re: the mentally impaired the other night while watching a NESN broadcast, in an attempt to try zing an opposing player.  He’s quite literally getting more out of control with every game because nobody’s reining him in, or even trying…

The guy is a complete joke, a clown… and in the era of Center Ice the NHL needs to step in and make NESN remove him or something.  He is a literal liability to the NHL for any prospective fan that catches a NESN broadcast.  I’m no Brickley either fan, but he’s about 50 times more tolerable than Edwards.  And it speaks volumes about NESN and Bruin fans alike that nobody has stepped in already and done something about him.

Some years ago after Dave Strader left the then-PASS (now FSN Detroit), they brought in an idiot named Mike Goldberg to replace him and I think he lasted a season before the fans’ pressure forced them to let him go because he was such a homer and an idiot (he’s now calling college field hockey somewhere or something last I saw, he was so bad and got such a bad rep that he gets no shots at major sports anymore).  If NESN or Bruins fans had any class between them, they’d do the same to Edwards.  Clearly, they don’t have that class though

I said it before and I’ll say it again—the whole reason Edwards is on NESN calling Bruin games is because he was doing stupid stuff calling soccer games for ESPN to the point where they just let him go.  He obviously never learned his lesson.  He wants to be the story himself.

I’ve seen some BAD announcers.  The early 1990’s Caps announcers were horrendous, NAS’s announcers right now are unbearable to watch or listen to, and NESN has never been known for having smart or savvy announcing teams… but c’mon now, NESN is just ridiculous.
