Give These Guys A Break

from James Duthie at the Ottawa Citizen,
I would like everyone to give referees ... a break.
Why do I suddenly feel like the guy on the All-Bran Cereal Bars commercial, where everyone spits out their water or laughs hysterically when he says they taste good?
It’s true. After spending the past two weeks scrutinizing call after questionable call on our TSN panel (TV factoid: debating referee rulings is a can’t-miss way to kill five minutes), I’m starting to suffer from some warped form of Stockholm Syndrome. I’m feeling sorry for the men in stripes.
Has there been the odd horrendous, brain-cramp, WTF?!? call in these playoffs? Of course. But there have also been countless occasions where we’ve looked at a replay a dozen times in Super-Duper HD Slo-Mo, and still haven’t been able to tell if the right call was made.

No crap from me. Officiating is the epitome of a thankless task.
They are an easy target, but they do the best job they can in the face of getting ripped from all angles. They can’t always be in the best position or see everything, and they are right more often than not.
It’s just difficult to keep in mind for some when a particular brain cramp costs their team a goal or a game.

there has been alot of suspicious calls in the first round and has continue to be in the second round. that artice that was posted on this site months ago about the refs is correct.i havent seen one consistant game for refs all playoffs and regular season.
but after the awful refereeing in flyers game and last night dive by cindy that gave pens the game i think we have a Tim Donaghy situation on our hands going on the NHL. If you look at the calls made in first round and at the end of games in second round that have given the team the lead or gave teams the ability to score to tie up the game late in games making it looks like the refs are trying to shape out the results of game.
mainly flyers fans are pissed about is how do not call a pentaly in the first period, call a couple a penatly in second period and call a pentaly because mtl fans are crying for one because they knew flyers were beating them at their own game. there is ZERO consistently thrusday night.
