from Shawn P. Roarke of NHL.com,
And while the group of eight GMs tasked with tackling the head-hits issue took center stage again Tuesday, the other breakout groups were discussing other proposals that could improve the game.
“Everybody is trying to accomplish the same things—try to make the game better, make the players safer and make the game more entertaining for the fans,” Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero told NHL.com.
Shero was part of “Breakout Group D,” which was charged with examining ways to improve ice conditions and looking at revising the definition of charging currently in the NHL rulebook.

I really hope that not every detail of these meetings is being reported.
Because not seeing anyone discuss large goalie equipment, Thunderdome-like pads for skaters and trying to open the game up is kind of disheartening.
And I’d really love for the league to start making use out of completely useless pre-season games.
Lets use them as ‘lab’ nights where they try out new rules or ideas.
Have one night where they use big nets.
The next night, play nothing but 4-on-4.
Another night, don’t play with any sort of offsides - just icing.
Or how about playing with only 2 zones? Blue lines mean nothing.
The problem with the NHL is that they have dinosaurs running the league and when they do think of an idea it’s something horrible like 8th spot tournaments.

The idea of a play-in tournament isn’t the worst idea I’ve ever read.
