from Adam Proteau of the Hockey News,
NORRIS TROPHY (Best Defenseman)
Nominees: Nicklas Lidstrom (Red Wings), Scott Niedermayer (Ducks), Chris Pronger (Ducks)
MY PICK: Lidstrom. Niedermayer and Pronger would’ve been great even if they didn’t play on the same team, but each certainly helped the other this season. Lidstrom, has no comparable teammate, yet still scored 62 points and led all blueliners with a plus-40 rating. That’s good enough for me.
check out Adam’s other picks for the hardware, and yes, before you ask, the Awards Show is Thursday, not tonight…

I don’t get the worship of Lindy Ruff. His team was loaded, most everybody picked them to win, etc. Randy Carlyle operated in nearly identical circumstances, yet he got zip.
Vigneault’s gifts pretty much consist of filling in ‘R Luongo’ on a lineup card. Other than that, his team scored fewer goals (and gave up more!) than Crawford’s team of a couple seasons ago.
Therrien I don’t really have a problem with. One out of three ain’t bad.
Maybe since this award is given by the broadcasters, it’s based on what coaches do when they’re behind a microphone, rather than behind a bench?
