Green Adjusting To New Stick

from Tarik El-Bashir of Captals Insider,

Mike Green broke the last of his discontinued Easton Stealths—the stick the slick-skating defenseman used to rack up 31 goals and 73 points—early in Game 1 of this series.

For the rest of that game, and the next two, Green said, “I felt like I was stickhandling for the first time again.”

“It takes a couple of games,” Green added, referring to the process of getting used to the feel of the heavier, stiffer Easton S17 stick that he’s using now. “But today I feel back to normal. It’s weird how that happens.”

“It’s a [crappy] time for that to happen,” he said with a laugh, although I could tell he didn’t really think it was funny.

“Its the refs, no guilt for hurting a countrymen, no no, its the back-to-back games, no wait it is the refs, yea, no, no wait, its the sticks.  Yes, lets go with that for tonight guys.  Its the new stick.”

They should have waited until after tonights loss to come up with the new stick excuse.  Now they will have to find another one.  I guess they can always use the refs one again.

OHHHHHHH I see the reason he is a 4th forward playing Defense is because of his New stick, Good By the time the Pens Eliminate them they will say the reason they lost was it was their time of the Month & ran out of Midol

Thats just bad stick management. You’d think that one of two things would happen. One, that he’d start practicing with the new stick before the playoffs. Two, special order some sticks. One would think that an NHL player, particularly one that had his kind of year, could get a special order of a few sticks, even if its a discontinued product.

He better hope that this stick knows how to play defense.  Do you really need to stickhandle to clear a player out of the crease?

I’m with UMFan on this one. How in the hell does this not get addressed during the regular season by Green? With the playoffs coming up you have got to be frickin stupid to not at least start practicing with new sticks pronto so you’ll be ready for the switch.

This coming from a guy who’s gonna win the Norris? What a crock. Not that anyone knew this was BS beforehand.

First he was sick, now he is not used to his stick.  It’s a good thing they are likely out soon, or he’ll run out of excuses.

Norris Trophy winner with one stick, defensively useless with another?

Perhaps he’s not really Norris-worthy, then.

Maybe Green didn’t have the flu, maybe it was dutch elm disease.
