Grooming Tips From AO

From Dan Steinberg in the DC Sportsblog, mention of a press release:
Hair Cuttery, the largest privately-owned chain of hair salons in the country, announced today that it has signed NHL Washington Capitals’ hockey star Alex Ovechkin to a 6-month partnership agreement commencing in October.
Ovechkin proves that even if you’re a multimillionaire, you can still appreciate a good haircut at a great price. After signing a 13 year, $124M contract - the richest in NHL history - the 22-year-old Washington Capitals’ left wing is still a regular client at the Ballston Common Hair Cuttery in Arlington, Virginia.
$14 haircuts. Interesting, this odd world of hockey endorsements. (And it seems like it would’ve been a decent gig for Jose Theodore, too.)

Geez, you Colorado boys… so sensitive about Jose and his hair…
Paul will be back later today.

Ha! Well, the fact that Jose is losing his hair isn’t what amuses me so much. It’s that he was so bothered by it that he risked getting nailed for performance enhancing drugs in order to keep it plentiful.

Vanity, my favorite sin
But seriously, I wouldn’t be taking many grooming lessons from Ovechkin. He often looks like he just back from an 8-month hike in the Andes and encountered a Yeti along the way.

Ovechkin endorsing a hair salon is like Pronger endorsing an anger-management clinic. Both places may have done everything they can for their guy but the end result is still a disaster.

Actually, I’m not so much bothered by the hair, or even the Avs jabs, as being mired in one-trick-pony land. Come on, A, learn some subtlety.

Himalayas, not Andes - but I agree.
If my hair looked like that I’d be asking for money to keep where I had it done a secret so they could keep the rest of their customers!

You know you’re bald when you’re starting to lose hair on the back of your head, and your head starts looking like a skunk’s if you don’t keep the weeds trimmed…
Hockey players and their hair...It’s adorable to see so many guys deny that they’re thinning up top. Mark Recchi could be the poster boy for, “LET IT GO, MAN!” syndrome…

Recchi’s played so much hockey, he could just say it’s helmet burn.

Guys are convinced that their helmets are the reason they start losing their hair in their late 20’s and early 30’s, quite seriously, to the point that they’ve occasionally approached hockey equipment manufacturers to ask them to study the problem!
As for AO, my baldar says that he’s gonna have a little thinning, but he should be OK, shaggy-haired, and a tremendous spokesman for the $14 haircut for some time.

Maybe someone should tell them that high levels of testosterone are an associated factor with baldness (100% true!). It might cut down on the ugly combovers in a vain attempt to pretend they still have all their hair.

I have so much testosterone that I shouldn’t be able to think coherent thoughts...um, wait a minute, let me take that back… :p
I still can’t believe that Rafalski combs the wisps. By the time I was 20, it was, “OMG I’m wearing a comb-over, cut it off, cut it off!” It takes a while for guys to realize it, but once you say goodbye to your hair, it’s not missed (and if you do, hell, Mickey Redmond can refer you to a place that does a great hair plug procedure...)
