from Elliotte Friedman at CBC,
Guy Carbonneau doesn’t have any answers. Alexei Kovalev and Janne Niinimaa were the latest to be benched, nailed to the pine for long stretches last Saturday night. Sergei Samsonov and Craig Rivet were other high-profile punishees over the past weeks. It’s clear this idea isn’t working.
Some reports out of Montreal indicate Sheldon Souray and Alexei Kovalev started the screaming match. It’s not certain if the two were yelling at each other, but these two have a history.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Honestly, if I were Koivu, I would have given up the C to Begin after the last game. It’s clear that he’s the leader of this team. Don’t know what’s wrong with Koivu but the timing of his slump matches pretty much the moment he was told he was cleared of his cancer. I don’t know but maybe he’s thinking that he dodged a couple of bullets with the cancer and his eye injury and perhaps the fire isn’t there anymore. Hell, I would put Begin on the PP right now to stir things up.
Anyways, glad to see that Higgins seems to be back, even if the goals aren’t yet. The way he’s playing they will come. As far as trades go, I’m not expecting much. If they keep tanking, then Souray will be gone but I’m not sure if anyone will really want Samsonov and Kovalev right now, without sending us a problem of their own the other way.
