from Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette,
Speaking of Souray, the Canadiens chances of re-signing him went from possible to unlikely after the Philadelphia Flyers secured the rights to Nashville defenceman Kimmo Timonen and signed him to a six-year deal worth an average of $6.3 million U.S. a season.
Souray’s history of injuries might discourage a team from offering him a six-year contract, but he should command the same kind of money as Timonen. Souray is a year younger, has a definite edge in size and is more of a force on the power play.

That’s so unsurprising I didn’t even bother posting it to my site. Seriously, I noted it over a week ago in my Foxsport column that the silence coming from the Souray camp ever since Gainey offered him $4.5 million per season just after re-signing Markov to considerably more than that speaks volumes. It’s been nearly a month and no word from Gainey or Souray’s agent as to his status, which tells me he’s hitting the market.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Sad to see him go ...but I wouldn’t sign him at the money that he is going to get. This should have been predictable and he should have been dealt at the deadline ...but hindsight is always 20/20.
He’ll get 6.5 from someone I’m sure ...I’d take him back at 5.5 (grudgingly) - although I don’t think he’s worth over 5.
+ great shot
+ great leader
+ physical
- defensive liability
