from the Washington Capitals,
The Washington Capitals have relieved Glen Hanlon of his coaching duties and named Bruce Boudreau the team’s interim head coach, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

I’m sad for Glen, but this move had to be made. (And perhaps more need to be made, still.) He seems like a good guy who did a great job getting young guys to play over their heads the last couple years. This year, when he had more complex pieces to command, it just wasn’t working out. Hope he lands somewhere where he can find more success.

I was at the game last night. The Caps played well for the first 23 minutes or so, up until they scored. And then Atlanta stepped it up a notch and the Caps had no answer. I never felt the Caps would win, even up 1-0. The only question was when and how often Atlanta would respond. Personally, I’m glad the Caps suck, since it means I can get plenty of cheap tickets since no one else wants ‘em.

The Caps would be better served by also getting rid of McPhee.

Kinda sad news, I always liked Hanlon.
He self-described his time in Detroit as ‘spare tire’, but always stepped up when needed. The media here could always count on him for a good quote.
The nicest guys don’t seem to make good coaches...guess that means Patrick Roy will have a long career as one in the NHL.
