Harding Wants To Be A #1 Goalie

from Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune,
Josh Harding knows he might not be long for the Wild with starting goalie Niklas Backstrom signed for four more years. And as much as Harding loves Minnesota, he would be perfectly OK with being traded.
“I want to be a No. 1,” said the 25-year-old backup goalie. “You ask anybody that, they want to be a No. 1. I love Minnesota. I love it there. It’s a great organization. That’s why it’s kind of a win-win situation.
“If some team has trust in me that maybe I could be a No.1 goaltender, it would be great for me and my career. I’m behind Backy. Backy was probably one of the top two, three goalies in the league last year. It’s tough to crack that. I think I played well this season and hopefully people recognize that, whether it’s Minnesota or another team.”

At 25 he has to be looking for that! But he also has to realize that the Wild are a defensive team and going to a non-defensive team would make him less marketable.
Still, he’s a solid 1a goaltender until he proves otherwise. Only problem is that there are plenty of solid cheap goaltenders that cost less then him (conceivably) and he’s not the next martin brodeur.

Also…he should count his blessings…sabourin (penguins) asked for the same thing and ended up in edmonton with no chance of ever being the starting goaltender, let alone the backup!

Perhaps he’s heard of a club called the Avalanche. He’d start on day 1.

The LA Kings could use him with all that cap space they have. Jonathon Quick is a good one coming up from the pipes but he could use some competition from within and Harding would be perfect.
