from Ed Moran of the Philadelphia Daily News,
Hatcher’s name will appear on the roster for the first game of the season and then immediately be moved to the long-term injury list.
The move allows the Flyers to create some breathing room by subtracting his $3.5 million salary from the overall cap total and gives Hatcher time to continue trying to rehab his degenerated right knee.

God, the people who cover hockey don’t even know how the cap works. LTIR doesn’t get you under the cap, it allows you to go over it to replace an injured player, and you have to shed the salary and immediately come back into cap compliance when the injured player comes back.
Come on, Ed.
