Have Crosby & Ovechkin Peaked?

from Brian Costello of The Hockey News,
As much as we think the wizardry of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin will be with us for the next 10 to 15 years, chances are their otherworldly scoring exploits are at a peak now and will trend downwards in the coming seasons.
At 22 and 24, Crosby and Ovechkin are sure to be the cream of the league for the next decade. There’s little question of that. But in terms of over-the-top scoring totals, they’re in their prime right now. Thing is, however, their “prime” is such a narrow range, if history is to be a barometer.

So what? I always thought that was what was supposed to happen - as a player took on more responsibilites, especially defensively, and the team improved around him, the enormous numbers were supposed to drop.
This seems like a lament in search of a problem. Bit of a head-scratcher.

Well, now that Mr. Costello and his ilk have certifiably verified that the Wings are definitely “over” based on the first two games of the season, they need to find a new hook. I haven’t and am not going to read the complete article, but found the following statement rather interesting:
At 22 and 24, Crosby and Ovechkin are sure to be the cream of the league for the next decade.
Really? What about Malkin, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg to name just a few right now? What about guys like Nash, Getzlaf, Stastny, Parise, Stamkos, and Tavares? I’m sure I’m leaving out others who are nowhere near their potential peak yet. And, not to wish anything bad on anyone (really, not even Thid…I swear), but what about serious injuries?

Based off what? For Ovie, I have seen nothing to indicate he’s at his peak yet. Crosby, maybe (who knows?), but Ovie for sure is capable of keeping this up long-term *IF* he can avoid taking unnecessary risks/injuries to his big frame.
Same for Malkin, I’ve seen nothing to indicate he’s peaking or peaked. Neither have Kovalchuk or Nash either.
