NEW YORK (April 5, 2007)—Eight clubs could clinch division titles and/or playoff berths tonight as the National Hockey League’s exciting countdown to the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues with 12 games. Tonight’s schedule features 11 games involving a club that either is competing for the four remaining playoff berths or vying for conference and/or division titles and playoff seeding.
Eastern Conference
#2 New Jersey can clinch the Atlantic Division tonight:
* If they earn at least one point at Philadelphia or Pittsburgh drops a point at Ottawa.
#4 Ottawa can clinch the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference tonight:
* If they beat Pittsburgh.
#6 Tampa Bay (idle) can clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If Toronto drops a point at NY Islanders or Montreal drops a point at NY Rangers.
#7 New York Rangers can clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they beat Montreal or Toronto drops a point at NY Islanders
#8 Montreal can clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they win at NY Rangers and Toronto drops a point at NY Islanders.
#9 Toronto can remain in the Eastern Conference playoff race tonight:
* If they win at NY Islanders
or
* If they earn one point at NY Islanders and Montreal drops a point at NY Rangers
or
* If they get no points at NY Islanders and Montreal gets no points at NY Rangers
#10 NY Islanders can remain in the Eastern Conference playoff race tonight:
* If they beat Toronto and Montreal drops a point at NY Rangers.
Western Conference
#1 Detroit can clinch the Western Conference tonight:
* If they beat Chicago.
#1 Detroit can clinch the Central Division tonight:
* If they earn one point at Chicago or Nashville drops a point vs. St. Louis.
#2 Anaheim (idle) can clinch the Pacific Division tonight:
* If San Jose and Dallas both get no points in their games.
#3 Vancouver can clinch the Northwest Division tonight:
* If they beat Colorado
or
* If they earn one point vs. Colorado and Minnesota drops a point vs. Edmonton
or
* If they get no points vs. Colorado and Minnesota gets no points vs. Edmonton.
#8 Calgary can clinch a Western Conference playoff berth tonight:
* If they beat San Jose
or
* If they earn one point at San Jose and Colorado drops a point at Vancouver
or
* If they get no points at San Jose and Colorado gets no points at Vancouver.
#9 Colorado can remain in the Western Conference playoff race tonight:
* If they win at Vancouver and Calgary drops a point at San Jose.
or
* If they earn one point at Vancouver and Calgary gets no points at San Jose.
