Hey, Hey, Hey, A New Hockeytown

from Ross McKeon at Yahoo,

But back to the task at hand: Choosing a new destination we can call Hockeytown, USA. Taking into consideration attendance, fan loyalty, a cozy relationship between the team and its region, a city that’s just right for the NHL, and our choice is pretty clear. Saint Paul, Minn., home of the Minnesota Wild, fits the bill.

Buffalo, Long Island, Denver, Boston, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have all had their moments both recently and long ago, but the rejuvenated market in Minnesota gets our vote.

As long as we still hold the rights to “Hockeytown” it’s ours, let em pick another name.

Yep. The organ-I-zation’s legal team is probably preparing a trademark infringement lawsuit against Ross McKeon as we speak.

The rest of the residents of the “State of Hockey” would like a word with you.

(Including Minneopolitans.)

I think the nickname “Hockeytown” has more to do than just the relationship between the team and the fans, it also has to do with tradition.

If another team in the league had sellouts for almost a dozen year and has made the playoffs for almost 20 years straight with around 10 Stanley cups to their name, then sure, take it.

So tired of people saying that Carolina doesn’t deserve a hockey team.  Hi, we won the Cup too.  Yes, college basketball is a huge deal, but guess what?  We’re allowed to like professional hockey!  (Even, in my case, be almost sacrilegious and not like college basketball at all, despite going to a powerhouse school… And I love hockey.)

And a “new” Hockeytown is ridiculous.  Overall, thoroughly underwhelmed by this article.

Can’t people come up with a new name? I mean Hockeytown isn’t even all that creative. And i would like to see a team come close to even matching what Detroit had (excluding Canadian teams).
