Hip-Hop Artist & Carolina Hurricanes Go To Court

Talk about a bad rap.

The Carolina Hurricanes and hip-hop artist Tyrone Banks are suing each other over the use of a tune that the Raleigh resident produced and named after the team in 2007.

In federal lawsuits filed Friday, Banks claims the team breached a contract and infringed on the copyright of his song when it used the song “Carolina Hurricanes” in commercials and on the team Web site without his permission. Meanwhile, the team accused the artist of misusing trademarks by referring to the rap as “the official Carolina Hurricanes song” and by wearing a Canes jersey in promotional material.
