from Scott Burnside of ESPN,
On the day Bruce Boudreau finally became an NHL coach, he wondered if that was what it was like to win the lottery.
After coaching for more than 15 years in places like Muskegon, Miss., Fort Wayne and Lowell, Boudreau’s numbers finally came in at 6:45 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.
“He kept saying, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!’ But he was smiling,” Boudreau’s wife, Crystal, said.
Within 30 minutes, Boudreau was out the door and headed toward Washington.
Update: Boudreau did a live question & answer session on the Washington Post website earlier today. [Transcript]

Boudreau has been a great story, it’s hard not to feel really good for the guy. Further, it’s really nice to see that he’s kept this team going. I know a lot of us probably had the feeling that the Caps were just feeling the “new coach/manager syndrome”, but he’s kept it going long enough now that things look good for him.
The key in Washington is going to be Ted Leonsis. He talks good, but he has to commit to spend to the cap, especially with so much money tied up with one player. Now that he’s got a good coach, he’ll have to be willing to clean out the front office, if necessary, and do everything in his power to bring in top hockey minds to assist Boudreau, his staff, and AO in getting to the very top of the league.
