Kukla's Korner Hockey

Hockey à la Twitter

Since KK’s Twitter started following Michael DiLorenzo’s—DiLorenzo also happens to be the NHL’s Director of Corporate Communications—we’ve been enjoying his updates.  Today, his stream of tweets has provided some October stats to chew on:

  • 21 October games were decided in a shootout, up 91% from the 11 shootout games in October, 2007.
  • The number of OT games during Oct almost doubled from a year ago. Of the 149 games, 27% required OT or shootout to determine a winner
  • The 588 even-strength goals represented a six-percent increase from the 555 in October, 2007.
  • The 149 NHL games in October averaged 5.9 goals per game, up three percent from the 5.7 of October, 2007.

He also answers the question: “What is the most searched term at the NHL’s online shop?” And the surprising answer: “Don Cherry.”

DiLorenzo also maintains the blog, From the Blue Seats
