via Frank Albin of the Seagate Broadcasters Blog,
Recently I went through some old boxes in my garage. I found an interesting/fun video that I produced back in 1990. At the time I was covering the Detroit Red Wings while working for PASS.
This was pre-Sharks and the big story was that the Minnesota North Stars were thinking of re-locating in San Jose.
Great find Frank and thanks for sharing so all hockey fans can view it.

BP29er, Ray Lane is still around, probably enjoying retirement.
I enjoyed Marty Adler in the video, remember catching him on CBC out of Windsor to get my hockey fix during their local news show.

couple of those things have already happened…
skin tight uniforms - reebok edge anyone..
and there was a story last year about a company out of Californa creating artifical ice

not to mention the fox glow puck…
love the fact they still think fax will exist in 2050…
kinda cool…makes you remeber how crappy early 90’s TV was though

I don’t even know what to say about the background music.
I think it’s hilarious how clunky the “computers” look - like the Star Trek computer devices that look like they were assembled from Lego blocks. And that they are predicting flying cars (which I never want to see unless using a cell phone AND drinking coffee AND smoking a cigarette while driving becomes a felony punishable by immediate vaporization). ![]()
Here is the big question - what happens if the hockey stick has a power failure just when a player is lining up a shot on the power play? Composite sticks never had power failures like that, and they were much less expensive than the new-fangled laser sticks.

I remember when that aired.

The skintight jersey era also happened during the early-to-mid 90s, but it wasn’t the speedsters looking for less wind resistance, it was the enforcers wearing them to give their opponents less grip.
Velcro sleeves, tearaway collars, the “whoops my jersey came off and took all my equipment with it” fighters… wild times.

I *totally* remember when that aired. I can’t tell you how much PASS I used to watch (ahh PASS and the old SportsChannel affiliates, I remember watching hockey on all of them).
And yes, it’s laughable (it was laughable back then too, lets be honest)... and yet as Pharazon pointed out, some of these things came to fruition.
Does anyone else now notice that Mart Adler sounds supiciously… creepily… like John Keating? I mean, it’s eerie…
Baroque - You mean of all the things you are worried about by the laser sticks., THAT’S it? The fact that the sliders are completely exposed and would be constantly getting bumped and the stick constantly adjusting/turning off didn’t strike you first? Heh.
The big question is… did PASS predict a 6’5” Jonny Ericsson?

That video may be responsible for the failure of PASS sports in Detroit. What ever happened to Ray Lane? Is he still alive? Still part of the media? Seriously! I want Ray Lane !!!
