As many of you know, I am always thinking hockey.

I no longer read hockey bloggers who don’t credit a source while making it look as if they are breaking news. It’s unprofessional and deceiving, too.
Here, here….

What do Jussi Jokinen, Jason Pominville, Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Chris Pronger have in common? All have 37 points.
That makes me sad. Please don’t post things, Paul, that make me sad.
* Due to the Olympics, the Vancouver Canucks hit the road Saturday, Jan. 30 and won’t play on home ice until Saturday, March 13. That’s a 14-game road trip, folks.
That could well be THE story in the Western Conference playoff stretch run.
The Canucks have played thirty games at home already, and yet are only eight points out of missing the playoffs.Obviously no Western team has played as many home games. And while the Canucks have been good at home (22-7-1), they have not been overly-impressive on the road (10-11-1). That is a 45% winning percentage.
If the Canucks continue on that road pace, they will win 9 of their remaining road games. No current playoff team in the West has a worst road winning percentage, and in fact, two current non-playoff teams (Calg/StL) have better road winning percentages than Vancouver.
Calculate Vancouver’s home winning percentage (73%), and if they continue on that pace they will win 8 of their remaining home games. That will give the Canucks 98 points at the end of the regular season.
Those, of course, are playoff-worthy numbers. But the margin for error is slim. And if Vancouver’s road winning percentage stays the same, then the Canucks doing worse than 50% at home for their remaining games could spell trouble. Any lengthy losing streak on this upcoming road trip, too, could well mean the Canucks would have to play 85% winning hockey at home in order to make the playoffs.
Certainly not impossible, and obviously the opposite could come true, and they may well thrive on the road, plus still play at the current torrid pace at home, in which case they would challenge for second in the West.
But, still, there are some dangers ahead for the Canucks. Should be interesting to watch.

Thanks a lot for the H2H talk, Paul.
And I’m looking forward to the Olympics, since it will be on TV.
