Holland At The Top Of His Game

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

No crowd will ever sing the praises of the winning team’s general manager, as the fans in Joe Louis Arena chanted “Oz-ie” Monday in tribute to goaltender Chris Osgood’s second consecutive shutout in the Stanley Cup final.

If ever a general manager deserved public accolades it’s Detroit’s Ken Holland, who put together a team that takes its dedication to defense as seriously as its dedication to one another.

Great article Paul.  Ms. Elliott is a very good writer.  Ken Holland certainly deserves all of Mr. Elliott’s lavish praise.

But I liked this sentence best:

The Red Wings will go to Pittsburgh for Game 3 on Wednesday with a 2-0 series lead that gives a new meaning to the word “commanding.”

Jeff, I had the pleasure of meeting Helene and she is very dedicated to the game.
Also, it is nice to see the LA Times actually covering the SCF.

Jeff, Not going to PITT unless game 4 means something big could happen.

Paul, the way things are going so far in this series, game 4 could mean quite alot; especially if DET scores first on WED.

Pens haven’t shown much during 5 on 5 play; but since they get the last change at home—maybe that will change up a little.  I don’t think so.  Lack of experience will have them gripping their sticks awfully tight Wed, in a must win game for them.  And since they haven’t been there before, well it could get ugly.
