Holland On The Wings

Wings GM Ken Holland was just on WDFN radio in Detroit… Holland mentioned how scary it would be right now if Datsyuk would be a UFA.
He is confident Hasek will sign and claims Wings will have between $11-$13 million to spend.  Wants to get Schneider signed and continues to talk to Bertuzzi’s agent.
Regarding Bertuzzi, said he could sign a 1yr contract with bonuses because he was on IR last year.  Wings doctors tell Holland his back is 100%, but he basically missed a year of hockey.  Wings feel he can be a 80 point man.
Holland was asked about Nashville, said everyone wants to see them stay.  Not good for the league if they move.

How exactly would Nashville moving be bad for the league?

As it stands you have a very good team that gets a lot of money from the league revenue sharing program yet still consistently posts a loss anyway.

So how would it be bad if it moved to a city that would support it to the point where it would not need revenue sharing, or even if it did, it at least would not be consistently posting a loss?

Kenny can sign whoever he wants as long as he makes DAMN SURE! that he has the cash available in 2009 to resign Zetterberg.

here is a quick look at the cap situation to come -if- the players vote it to be 50.9 million.  The Wings currently sit at 32.53 million giving a difference of 18.37.  Minus 2 million cap room for deadline deals gives us 16.37.  Lets assume Kenny has his Hasek (beer) goggles on and gives Hasek 2.5 plus last years incentives, is a 3.35 cap hit taking us down to 13.02.  Bert resigns at a 3.5 rate (this is a high estimation)  we are now at 9.52.  Minus Chelios’ bonus’ from last year of an estimated 850,000 - 8.67.  Now assuming Schnieder walks the wings could pick up Ryan Smyth at an estimated 6 million which leaves 2.67.  Hudler resigns as a restricted free agent at 650,000 leaves us roughly 2.02.  So its safe to assume the wings will have between 1.5 to 2.5 to sign a defensmen.  Which puts us in the Markov, Boynton, Poti, DeVries range.  Here is a projected lineup.

Holmstrom / Datsyuk / Zetterberg
Bertuzzi / Filppula / Smyth
Cleary / Draper / Kopecky
Hudler / Franzen / Grigorenko
extras… Maltby / Samuelsson

Lidstrom / Lilja
Kronwall / Free Agent
Chelios / Lebda
Quincey / Meech / Kindl / Ericsson

Hasek / Osgood.
