How About A Lemieux Statue?

from Mark Madden at the Beaver County Times,

As the Consol Energy Center rises across the street from Mellon Arena, plans for accessorizing the Penguins’ new digs should be forming.

Even though it’s not his style, those plans must include a statue of the team’s greatest player and current owner, Mario Lemieux.

As the euphoria of the franchise’s third Stanley Cup fades — and that’s going to take a while — we should never forget the gamble Lemieux took to keep the team in Pittsburgh and keep his sweater alive.

HuH ??? I just read it, He kept the Pens away from Balsillie ??  He supposedly tried to sell the Pens to Him, He was the first Buyer of the Pens

Just for Clarification I don’t think he was going to sell the Pens to Balsillie as it was a Negotiation ploy

I think he deserves a little more than a statue out the front of the new building.

Lemieux deserves a little statue akin to Maurice Richard, awarded to the player with the highest points-per-game at the end of the season (with at least 41 games played).

Either that or the Atlas award, for the player with the greatest period/shift during the NHL season. ie., Brooks’ Orpik’s “The Shift” or perhaps Mike Knuble’s two goals in the first 27 seconds of the game vs FLA, etc.

Superhuman effort that only a mini statue of the greatest player to ever skate in the NHL deserves.

During the groundbreaking of the new arena last year, Pens’ CEO Ken Sawyer said that there would be some sort of Lemieux statue....
