How Did NBC & CBC Handle The Winter Classic

from William Houston of the Globe and Mail,
But for television, the outdoor game is a tough sell unless it’s framed brilliantly within the context of its surroundings.
In that respect, the CBC and NBC did fine jobs of bringing the enormousness of the spectacle into our homes.
Both networks conveyed the larger-than-life aspect of the game by giving us high overhead shots from an aircraft above the stadium as well as scenes in and around the game.
But the CBC should have given us more crowd shots. The mood and reaction of the spectators, after all, is a large part of the show.
Update 8:34pm ET: Reviews of the game all being added to this post, and game video available here.

I thought NBC did a great job with their broadcast today. It’s not going to be as in-depth as CBC’s, because most Americans obviously don’t know the game like Canadians do. However, I felt that NBC’s interviews with players at ice level, Pang’s updates on the ice conditions and Olcyzk’s insight made for a perfect setting.
No matter who you watched, this game won successfully presented, and in the end the NHL and hockey fans all across the world won.

I’ll say more about this later, but I think Emrick did a fine job of just selling the hell out of this game.
