How Do You Feel About Probie?

from Greg Wyshynski of PuckDaddy,

The difference in games played for Bob Probert between the Detroit Red Wings (474) and the Chicago Blackhawks (461) is negligible, but there’s no question he cemented his reputation as the most feared fighter in the NHL while wearing the Winged Wheel.

Which is why his public support of the Blackhawks in the Western Conference finals—dropping the ceremonial first puck, telling Jonathan Toews(notes) “good luck, kick their asses”—isn’t exactly endearing him to the Red Wings faithful:

I was really bothered by his appearence in the hawks sweater, but then to hear probie say to toews, “kick their asses” (By the way the audio of probie was only picked up by the CBC brodcast, wasn’t heard on NBC) really didn’t sit well with me.

Ithink back to the numerous times Demers defended Bob after one of his “slips” off the wagon, and how Jimmy Develano spoke out in support of Bob. The Illitches, spent serious money to send Bob to the rehab facility in Minn. to get “cleaned” up.

How many clubs would have stuck it out with probie after he got busted at the border?

How many clubs would have carried Bob on their roster , when he couldn’t travel to and play games in Canada?

I was a huge fan of Bob’s when he and Joey destroyed all comers for several season with the Wings, and I hope Bob is clean and sober and all is well in his life, but that stunt he pulled on Sunday is unforgiveable in my book.

What he did is not just an affront to die-hard Wings fans, but to the entire organization which tried very hard to help a young man get his life back on track.

I burned his rookie card. I was a major Probie fan. He kicked himself out of Detroit. Too bad because the guy could actually find the back of the net once in a while.

His pugilistic skills were very good. Enforcer du juor .

Lets Go Red Wings

Look at it this way - judging by how poorly the team played that game, maybe he cursed the Blackhawks?  smile

Doesn’t bother me.  He played for both, Chicago has a long drought - whatever.

My visceral reaction was a mental step back and a “WTF?!” However, as Baroque said, he did play for Chicago. If the Wings’ organization, if Illitch, is bothered by Probie’s allegiance to Chicago, that’s their issue to deal with, not mine. I have more important things to worry about, like Lidstrom and Datsyuk getting healthy, the PK, and 5 to 12.
