How Important Is Home Ice?

Detroit has won the Presidents’ Trophy in four of the past six seasons, winning the Stanley Cup twice from the pole position. The Wings, who have won the trophy six times, are the only team to win the award more than twice.
“We’ve had No. 1 seeds (in the west) every year I’ve been here, it’s helped us once,” forward Dan Cleary said. “But I do think it’s beneficial.
“Anytime you get to start at home and possibly end at home, it’s a good thing. Especially against San Jose, they’ve been great in their building. They’re definitely a team that wants home ice.”
