How The Rangers Can Get Heatley

from Michael Obernauer of The Blueshirts Blog at the NY Daily News,

What’s it going to take for the Rangers to get a deal done for the two-time 50-goal scorer? For one thing, they need to move some money the other way, but they can still afford to come out a little behind because acquiring Heatley would go a long way toward addressing one of their most dire needs. If Michal Rozsival ($5 million cap hit) is included in an offer with either Brandon Dubinsky or Ryan Callahan plus a draft pick, the Sens can bellyache all they want about not wanting Rozsival, but we’ll see then how desperate they are to be rid of Heatley ($7.5 million cap hit). If the Sens prefer to substitute Scott Gomez (7.35 cap hit) for Rozsival in that offer, with five more years on his deal to Rozsival’s three? That might get it done too.

ERRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

That was my best horn noise.

Anyways, you lost the game.  In case you did not know, there is a game for all Ranger fans and writers called “name that trade” Unfortunately any time a trade proposal is discussed and a fan/blogger/writer etc mentions the names of either Rozisval, Redden, Drury, or Gomez, the horn is heard and said player loses the game.  Sorry, but you lost.

No matter how desperate Ranger fans want the Senators to be, including any of the four players in a trade squashs the trade.  Seriously, think about it.  Rozsival at 5 million a year.  HA!

So you can understand how crazy of an idea you are proposing think of it from say a Philly standpoint.  “The Senators are soooo despearte that they should take our extremely bloated contract we offered Briere and we can throw in a semi decent prospect and they should be all over this… because uh, they are desperate” I think the Senators will take Heater for another year at half the production and be more pleased than having any of the 4 from the Rangers.

Other than Lundquist the entire Ranger team is untradeable. This is what happens when you have a lazy, senile dope like Glen Sather who just writes big checks to any and everybody......However, they could always waive Drury, Redden or Gomez and free up some cap space. That would be funny!

More than likely even waiving them will not help.  Only on re-entry would it help when someone Like Drury/Gomez at half salary is something a team can swallow.  However I still would not take Redden or Roz at half salary.  I guess they could always buy them out.  New York Sports teams are famous for throwing money away, so that is always an option.

The Senators would be absolutely crazy to take on Gomez or Rozsival.  They already have a top end, playmaking center, too bash on who makes good coin in Spezza.

I agree with this and most everything else already stated.

However, if something could be worked out I think Drury could flourish in Ottawa.  Drury’s a gamer.  His biggest mistake of his career was signing with the NYR…

G to L, I imagine Kevin was referring to how they could be sent in to the AHL and not count against the cap, not that any team would pick them up.

Drury is a glorified 3rd line center. Horrible contract. Actually the Rangers could trade Stahl, Giriadi and a #1 draft pick and get Heatley I would think but they would have to buy somebody out which they really don’t have a problem doing most of the time. If Redden and Rosival actually came to play next year it could work out for them

He’s good for about 76 games a season, he’s good for at least 20 G and 30 A a season, he’s twice nabbed over 30, and he’s shown up big-time in the playoffs with every team until the Rangers.

I still say he’s a proven winner with any team other than the Rangers (the Rags kill EVERYONE, it’s where decent players go to die)

Drury isn’t the MAN.....he never was.......not in Colorado. He had one great year in Buffalo and suckered the Rangers. He always wanted to play for NYR...they should have offered half of what he got.

Well i guess getting rid of Gomez and his 7.3 million a year is one way to help your chances of getting Heater.  Wow, who would have thought that contract was tradeable?

I wouldn’t wish a trade to the Rangers on anyone. No offense to Ranger fans, but that is the place where star players go and seem to become former shells of themselves. Its the black hole of hockey talent. I don’t know why, but stars just seem to fade out and die there.
