a 360? I think that was more like a 180…and he scored with his back to the goaltender. Unfreakinbelievable.

Hey RWBill, no pictures or recap from the gathering?

Leino should never again have to play in an AHL game. He’s defensively sound and he sees the ice incredibly well. I was particularly impressed that, in his interview, he verified what I thought I saw when he scored his goal. He said he was trying to get the puck to Hossa, but both defensemen played the situation as they possibly could…so he actually looked for an opening where he could shoot the puck. The only difference between Leino and Sammy is Leino has a brain.
As for Abadabadoo, he could take either Malty’s or Kopecky’s place today. I swear I didn’t see him make a single mistake out there.
It’s time to stop “riding the past” with guys like Ozzie, Lebda, Sammy, Drapes and Malts. It’s time for them to go…if not by the trade deadline, at least by July 1. Howard, Ericsson, Helm, Abadabadoo and Leino are all ready for prime-time. Keep Conck and bring up the above Griffins next year and let’s start playing the “next generation” of Red Wings.

Well, and that Samuelsson is a much faster skater, has a better shot, and Leino has better hands and offensive instincts (although that’s probably what you’re calling ‘a brain’). Hudler is a better comparison.
It was a nice goal. Didn’t actually take much physical skill, but that ability to improv with the puck just can’t be taught and is often what separates the real dynamic players from the just-good players.

That was magical in his first NHL period, 8 rows directly in front of me. Unfortunately for Wings fans it was all downhill from there!
