I Need Your Help

In my NHL.com blog today, I ask readers to submit their favorite hockey sites on the web.
It can be a well known hockey site or an obscure site. All are allowed.
What I am trying to do is create a large blog and MSM list, giving hockey fans a reference point for anything hockey.

update Monday, March 12th… We have started building the Hockey Links page. Check it out and you can submit more links there!

I don’t see my personal favorite yet, Canucks Corner very own Tom Benjamin’s NHL Weblog.

Lyle Richardson is well known around here, but he’s a must read each day.

HF boards is probably one of the better message boards- it is a message board though so you get a bit of everything. Someone already linked to the salary sites.

hockeyDB.com is great for looking up history on players, teams, awards, etc.

The Sabres Report links to articles about the Sabres from all over the internet(if you find one that’s not there, submit it and they’ll add it). They do a great job of covering post-game articles from both the Sabres perspective and the opposing team’s media outlets. They even cover the Rochester Americans. Every team should have a one-stop shop like this.

Why HLOG, of course! Hockey’s Ladies of Greatness is a general NHL blog uniting the perspectives of female hockey fans from different teams. The blog aims to create a stronger (and possibly more positive) voice of female hockey fans and what makes them tick for the game. Every week we have a different topic is up for discussion and our members post news/views about the team they represent. HLOG has grown rapidly since it’s inception and there are still teams that aren’t represented so watch out!

I’ll shamelessly plug my own site (http://www.thehockeychick.com) and another I contribute to is the HLOG (http://hlog.blogspot.com).

A little something about my site: Although I do have a favorite team (you’ll guess which one when you read), I try to keep a general perspective on my posts. Anything that interests me will be my topic of discussion. From personal hockey experiences to opinion on trades and management changes… I cover it all.

A little about the HLOG: A general NHL blog uniting the perspectives of female hockey fans from different teams. The blog aims to create a stronger (and possibly more positive) voice of female hockey fans and what makes them tick for the game. This blog is open to newcomers and fans in hopes to maybe collect them all like monopoly estates.

There is a huge blogroll on the sidebar of HLOG to the sites of all the ladies that contribute. Some other sites are http://getasportinglife.blogspot.com/,
http://hockeyfan.blogspot.com/, http://jerseysandhockeylove.com/blog/.

Whoops! My mistake about The Hockey Recap - my internet connection at work has blocked that site recently, so I wasn’t aware of the hibernation.

As far as shameless plugs go, my blog “On the Forecheck” focuses mostly on extending statistical analysis related to the NHL, along with some Nashville Predators commentary to boot. I’m a homegrown Red Wings fan relocated to Tennessee, and it looks to me like a juggernaut of a hockey team is just starting to roll in the Music City.

Great idea! Since the hockey blog-roll is so huge, it’s great somebody’s taking initiative to sort of start collecting all of them.

So, I guess I too, shall shamelessly plug my own blog: Scarlett Ice - A light-hearted and at times over dramatic view of hockey from the perspective of an Ottawa Senators fan stuck in Leafs Nation. I also like to talk about the business/marketing perspective side of hockey since I’m a commerce major in university. I also make attempts at being funny with the Panic Metre and Colin Campbell’s Wheel of Justice.

Some of my favourites are:

E’s A Theory of Ice. Her writing puts me to shame. She provides a philosophical and poetic look at hockey and has great insight into the mind of a hockey fan.

American Hockey Fan. Hilarious, and proves that there are in fact people in America who love hockey. Also features the exploits of Jen, a hockey fan in training. Maybe someday she’ll be a part of HLOG?

Hockey Dirt. Lots of general hockey information to be found.

2 Man Advantage - A New Jersey Devil blog with great photoshopped images.

Sens Underground is a Senators blog that also features a weekly podcast that has had celebrity guests such as Ian Mendes of Sportsnet and Pierre McGuire, James Duthie and Brent Wallace from TSN.

The Battle of Ontario - the smack talk that goes on in the comments section is reason enough.

As a huge hockey fan & fantasy player ‘stuck’ in Australia, I visit the majority of the sites listed above quite often as well. However there’s another one that warrants attention from fans & fantasy players: http://www.leftwinglock.com

Although leftwinglock is currently a stripped back version compared to goaliepost; it doesn’t induce the epileptic fits one gets from hockeyinformer.com either! Mike, the bloke that runs it, is a bit of a legend as far as I’m concerned. He went so far as to email me on a late change of goalies, giving me a slim 6-minute window to change my starter in time, which I’m glad I did! Now that’s not a service he offers, so don’t get too excited, but is a testament to his character - he has a 96% success rate for starting goalies and likes to keep it that way!

Site info:

“leftwinglock.com was founded in 2005 by hockey enthusiasts who shared common passions for both sport and analysis. The staff at leftwinglock.com was motivated to create this site largely due to the lack of quality analysis available for the fantasy hockey community. We were tired of the experts’ magazines for the upcoming fantasy season that were printed before free agency and pre-season camps were held. We were tired of fantasy analysts on the web who told us who the best fantasy players would be despite having no knowledge of our league’s particular point structure. And finally, we just got tired of hearing ourselves complain.

Our site will be going under some renovations this Spring (2007). We hope you will check in from time to time to see the changes. For now, check out our starting goalies page which is enjoying a successful 96% accuracy rate.”

Enjoy!

For Los Angeles Kings fans, the most popular isn’t necessarily the best.

Everyone seems to know about letsgokings.com, but if you want solid news reporting and commentary (they even have a writer with media access to the Kings), the best site is the Online Kingdom (http://www.kingshockey.com).

From what I can tell, they’ve been at it since 1995, before the big explosion of fan-based hockey web sites, and the quality of the writing just gets better every year.

When you compare message forums, the signal-to-noise ratio (ie. knowledgeable fans discussing hockey intelligently and in a civil fashion), kingshockey.com is FAR better than letsgokings.com.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

These are all for Rangers fans:
http://www.blueshirtbulletin.com --Blueshirt Bulletin is an independent publication covering the Rangers, producing 10 issues a year, so they have media access to the team. This site is the accompanying blog, and is updated at least once daily. They also have a monthly chat with Rangers prospects and media personalities.

http://rangers.lohudblogs.com --"Rangers Report” is the blog of Sam Weinman, the Rangers’ beat writer from the Journal News. He updates at least once daily (usually more), so this is the site to go for the most up-to-date info. (Plus, it’s usually an enjoyable read.)

http://www.hockeyrodent.com --Rangers info/rants and game analysis, as well as general NHL stats and trends (all technical stuff). Also supposedly has some “sources” in Czech. Rep. for info on the Rangers’ Czech contingent.

I do like all the Buffalo Sabres blogs above but I didn’t see BfloBlog or Buffalo Sport Stampede on the list.
Yes the Buffalo Sport Stampede is a shameless plug of my own but the BfloBlog is probably the best Sabres blog out there.

Can win an award for “furthest away from Canada” blogger?

But yeah, that and the HLOG. What everyone said. I know I should have been the first person to say so but I think it counts for something!

Great blog site… updated daily. Probably the best blog out there that covers the tough side of hockey. They update regularly and cover current and past tough guys and scraps. They also do a bit of new NHL stuff, Bettman, and a side of entertainment. Good read.
