If The Wings Make The Playoffs Are They Cup Contenders?

A Wings win over the Penguins today would help answer that question.

Pierre McGuire trys to answer that questioon too and view the today’s NHL schedule below…

The Wings will contend for the cup.

God help the team that matches up with the Wings in round 1.

Douche Canoe is full of it.

I believe two years ago Pierre picked every opponent the Wings had in the first three rounds.

How’d that work out for you, over-rated color guy?

I will say one thing, though. Considering how poorly the Wings have played in the last month, if they are not careful this game today could get out of hand very quickly.

I don’t think it will happen, but the possibility for an embarrassment is there.

Fuch this.  Let’s worry about making the playoffs first.

I don’t know what win over the pens would prove. They’re not exactly playing like contenders either…

A completely healthy Detroit team is a contender due to pedigree and experience, but not a favourite. Much the same can be said of Pittsburgh in the EC.

The kids might be hoping for Washington against Chicago, but it would be nice to jam a giant stick into that wheel of expectation.

Wings need this win in order to take advantage of the game at hand they have over the Flames.

The Flames also have a pretty good schedule leading up to the break.

Philly, Carolina, at home, very winnable games. On the road to Fla, TBay, and Ottawa. Two of those three very winnable. Then back home for Dallas and Anaheim.

I’m tired of hearing the Wings are an old team.  Seriously tired of it.  The only older players on this team are Lidstrom, Rafalski,  Draper, Maltby and Holmstrom.  A quick runthrough of the roster shows that Datsyuk, Cleary, Franzen and Stuart are between 28-32, which is not “old”.  Other than that, the rest of the players are in their 20’s, so what the hell is everyone talking about?  Do these guys honestly expect every team to be made up of players who are barely able to buy a beer in the USA?

It’s really funny when the “age factor” is the only thing “experts” have to say against the “old and tired” Wings.

Douche Canoe is such a hockey expert, only NBC will hire him. If he knew at all what he was talking about, someone desperate would hire him as a GM.

As much a contender as any other playoff team and more than many.

Lots of talking and pointless speculation for a pretty simple question.

um Pierre forgot like the run the 91 North Stars had as um an 8 seed basically (back in the old format of course) Wings could be an 8 and can win the CUP!!.. Pierre McGuire should not be able to do any hockey he should go to figure skating or something like that he is good at.
