If Your NHL Team Was a Movie

From Adam Proteau at The Hockey News,
So bust out the popcorn, get your shoes all sticky and have a gander at this season’s Oscar-caliber hockey franchises, and those more in line for a Razzie Award:
Anaheim
Movie: The Departed
Plot Summary: The early-season absences of Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne digs a hole even the talented Ducks can’t waddle out of.
Real Review: “Where once the bodies pulsated with life in all its vainglorious furor, here they drop like wooden ducks in an artificial pond.” – Rick Groen, The Globe and Mail

I wouldn’t analyze it too much. Did you see the Canucks one? It made me cry…

It seems that nearly every time Adam Proteau writes something new, I lose a little respect for THN. The only THN writer that rivals his idiocy is Ken Campbell.

That was a retarded article. The teams resemble the movies in title only. The Stanley Cup Champs = Blades of Glory? It’s a tasteless comedy! Has he actually seen any of these movies?

The teams resemble the movies in title only.
No kidding. That was done on purpose, if you actually read the beginning of the article:
A couple years ago, Screen Shots summarized the seasons of each NHL team by identifying a real movie, showing how its title meshed quite nicely with each franchise’s performance that year, and picking out a genuine review that also offered some valuable insight into that particular team’s fortunes.

It’s still retarded. Actually, it’s even worse knowing that they were only trying to match NHL team seasons with titles. One comment on THN applauded this as being “creative.” No, it’s retarded.

The early-season absences of Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne digs a hole even the talented Ducks can’t waddle out of.
I think that this is a bit off, as the Ducks did overcome pretty well the early season absences of their superstars.
Their downfall was more a result of Perry’s injury and Pronger’s suspension, I’d say, but I guess that doesn’t make as good a tagline in this story.
