I’ll Go With The Insider On This One

from Tarik El-Bashir at Capitals Insider on AO contract talks…
Nothing has changed, he said, since the last time I asked him about this on Oct. 29 in Toronto, adding that serious talks still have not started and that he’s not sure when they might.
I asked him if that lack of an offer is bothering him. At first he said, “No.” Then he paused for a moment before saying, “Of course I think about my contract. It would be stupid to answer that I don’t think about my contract. Of course I think about it. But we don’t start talking. We just wait. We still have time.”
This earlier today from Marty York at Metro News,
Two young NHL stars, defenceman Dion Phaneuf and forward Alexander Ovechkin, have rejected contract-extension proposals from the Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals, respectively.
The Caps offered Ovechkin a five-year pact similar to the deal the Pittsburgh Penguins gave Sidney Crosby ($8.7 million a season), but the sniper is demanding more — between $9- and $10-million a year.

To Stuck...it’s easy to reduce the salaries...don’t go to the games, don’t watch them on TV...become a college or minor league hockey fan. As long as people are willing to pay lots of money to attend games and watch them on TV, owners will charge them. And the players are entitled to their share of the revenue, because they are the product. This argument about athletes being paid too much is ridiculous.

AO demands that much because he knows he can get it from someone. His team hasn’t had the success that Crosby’s has with him, so AO hasn’t become as partial to it and doesn’t feel the need to give a discount. Either one of them could easily get the maximum from plenty of teams....

Don’t believe a word that Marty York writes or says, his sources are less credible than a certain individual who is often mocked on this site (right Paul?)
Will Dion sign on to remain in Calgary? I sure hope so, but there’s still time to work out a deal, the last thing we want to see if an outrageous offer sheet coming from that “city” 3 hours north of Calgary.

Send AO back to Russia - Humans are NUTS - Athletes are WAY WAY WAY OVERPAID! And to want that much is just GREED. He will PLAY GAMES for the highest bidder. I ABSOLUTELY love watching Pavel Datsyuk puckhandle but I don’t like how much he is being paid to do it.—Have to run - maybe more venting later
