Is this one of those Mario Lemeuix\Michael Jordan type of retirements?

So not only are the media getting trades wrong, they are also getting retirements wrong.  Multi-tasking.

Pierre LeBrun, ESPN.com

LeBrun (1:56 p.m. ET): TSN reported a few minutes ago that Peter Forsberg was going to announce his retirement tonight in Denver. Apparently, that’s not the case. “It’s not true,” Forsberg’s agent Don Baizley told ESPN.com “Peter is not in North America and it’s not true he’s retiring tonight.”

Too bad. Would have been nice for the Wings to be part of that quaint little ceremony. I’m sure it would have been as tasteful as everything else that franchise has done in Denver.

I thought the big announcement was going to be Forsberg’s changing his last name to Garcia.

Like the Roy and Bourque retirement ceremonies?  You’re right IwoCPO, those were classless abominations....

Did you seriously just reference Ray Bourque’s ceremony as some sort of defense that the Colorado organization isn’t garbage and classless, much less completely ignorant of hockey tradition or history?  Really?

If so, thanks for confirming what I’ve been saying for a long time.

Did Forsberg re-injure his foot or something?  Last I heard he was playing with Modo… No?

Ahhh, just found it.  Another setback with the same foot.  Poor guy.  I’d have loved to see him in the NHL again.  One of the best of his era and it’d be nice to see what he could’ve done in the current one.

Plus, I always like watching Detroit beat the best.

Pity he isn’t retiring.  He was a tremendous player and I don’t wish hobbling around as an old man at 45 on anyone, and that might be where he is headed if he keeps beating up the same foot.

I dunno, Baroque.  From what I’ve had translated from the swedish news it seems like the foot is just doing it’s thing over and over- and nothing he’s doing is making it worse; they just can’t make it better.

I also understand that he’s not had the problem walking.  It’s only in skates.  I can’t help but feel like he’s rushed back too soon after surgery each time.  He’s a competitor so it’s pretty easy to see why- but if you’ve got a small, hard-to-target muscle acting up you gotta take it reeeeeeally slowly to make sure you get that muscle back in shape.

Then again, uh, I guess he has pretty good doctors telling him what not to do.

If it only affects his skating and not day-to-day life, then that is much less sad.

He probably should retire and enjoy his Croc profits and not having to worry about his foot, though.  It might be less stressful.
