via All Things Avs,
Just sitting around here waiting for some official word from the Avs on Smyth’s scary injury from last night. But a person I talked to with some knowledge of the situation says Smyth’s left shoulder - not his head or neck - might be what causes him the most problems.
added 6:48pm, from All Things Avs,
The Avs are going to announce soon that, while Smyth’s head and neck checked out well on CAT scans, the left shoulder is likely separated - but things will be officially known in the coming days.
Translation: he’s got a shoulder separation, at least. I’ve also been hearing about a possible broken collarbone - the most commonly broken bone in the human body.As for Svatos, the Avs are saying the full extent of his left knee injury will be known in the coming days.
added 6:51pm, The official word from the Avalanche…
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey club announced today that forwards Ryan Smyth and Marek Svatos will be out indefinitely after suffering injuries in the second period of last night’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Smyth was released from a local hospital Saturday night after CT scan results on his head were negative. He regained consciousness on the ice following a collision with the padded partition near the Avalanche bench.
Svatos suffered a knee injury when he collided awkwardly with the boards in the corner of the Kings’ zone.
Both players will undergo further examination over the next few days with the Avalanche medical staff and a more precise diagnosis of their injuries will be known at that time.

I almost wonder if it isn’t better to tank than come in 7th or 8th.
I think that is part of Toronto’s problem. They have a tendency to ‘just get in’ to the playoffs. Meaning they get knocked out early and get a crappy draft pick.
No I am not suggesting by any stretch that a team intentionally tanks…..
