via Sport Express,
“I have got a couple of interesting offers from Russia,” admitted Yashin to Sport Express.
“Moreover German and other European clubs seem to be interested in my services.”
“Some think my move to Detroit is a settled thing but I can say only that they want to see me in the squad as well as a number of other clubs, yet I can’s say anything more definite.”
“I am happy that my services are still in demand and I’d like to thank Russian supporters for their attention to me.”

God help us. Usually I am willing to consider a player if they come at the right price. But I do not think there is a good price for Alexi Yashin.
This would be a terrible signing and I hope Detroit is not seriously considering it. Any player who racks up a -45 on the +/- in one season, I don’t care who you play for, does not deserve to be employed in professional hockey anymore. Yashin is a -83 on his career, and that is after playing for some good hockey teams.
In 12 NHL seasons, Yashin has played in 8 playoffs. Of course he didn’t bother showing up for 2 of them, has only scored 11 goals in 48 games, and is -16 in said games. He’s only made it past the 1st round once, in 1997.
And, as everyone knows, he is a bit of a prima donna who does not work as hard as he should every shift. This will not jive well with Mike Babcock and I anticipate a lot of friction between he and Yashin.
I would rather the Wings sign Fedorov, or Forsberg, or better yet Jason Allison. Please, dear god, please not Yashin.

You must be referring to the mentioning of Detroit?!
Although.... it could be co-inky-dinky, or Big Kenny could be getting ready to show what he’s had up his sleeve…

Holland is replacing Lang.
*spit take*
Yashin is a $5 million talent with $5.00 motivation. Maybe it would be best for him to play in Russia.

I’m not saying I support signing Yashin but in all fairness he did have a fairly decent year in 06-07 stat-wise. In 58 games he had 18 goals and 32 assists for 50 points and was a +6.

Wow, he’d have to be taking an incredible pay cut for the Wings to be able to afford him. $2-3m per season tops.

The Russian press isn’t just “different"--you can take anything said in Sport-Express, Sovsport, or Gazeta with a pound of salt. Igor Larin, their version of Garrioch/Brooks/Cox/Strachan all rolled into one, wrote a lead-up article yesterday suggesting that Detroit is the only realistic destination for Yashin, and I’m sure that Yashin’s comments are made in context of Larin suggesting, “Surely, you’re going to end up a Red Wing...”
Now Yashin. There are no doubts, that from the hockey point of view “Detroit” for it - an excellent [destination]. Datsyuk, whatever one may do, while and did not become for City of motors to the second Fedorov about what speak unfavourable results of club in [playoffs]. Therefore to the 33-years veteran on forces to pick up dropped out of hands Fedorov, and also [Yzerman] a banner dominating [centre forward].
That’s right, Larin’s suggesting that Detroit fans haven’t really accepted Datsyuk because he was unable to deliver in the playoffs, so it’s, “Up to the 33-year-old veteran” (i.e. Yashin) “to pick up the banner of dominating superstar out of the hands of Fedorov and Yzerman.”
In general the situation in the market of free agents develops so, that “Detroit” for Yashin - hardly probable not last successful variant. All the others - [are] among doubtful.
On hearings, on the player the main Canadian clubs - “Montreal”, “Ottawa”, “Edmonton” [offer]. However there are certain doubts that Yashin dreams to come back to Canada after made a noise [Ottawa] the conflict. And the press of the Country of a Maple Leaf till now is adjusted in relation to the player extremely aggressively.
So Yashin won’t go back to Canada because the press hates him, as far as Larin’s concerned.
Is at Yashin and variants with the American clubs of the second plan. For example, with “Minnesota”. But that with the [coaching staff] a manner of game of a name of Jacque Lemera is counter-indicative to the Russian dispatcher.
Can’t play the trap…
As to “Atlanta” Kovalchuka and “Washington” Ovechkina it is possible to forget about them gradually. The capital club has already bought Victor Kozlov and Nylander - and one more [centre forward] hardly is included into its plans.
The Caps have too many centres…
“Atlanta” where it is a lot of years without the present dispatcher misses Kovalchuk, too has already played [the market], having kept Vyacheslav Kozlov. Here also there is one “Detroit"…
Thus, because the Thrash have spent their free agent $ bringing back Slava Kozlov to pass the puck to Illya Kovalchuk, Detroit is the only logical option in Larin’s opinion.
Any advanced foreign language program is built upon the concept of teaching in context, because it’s much easier to determine what somebody’s saying when you can place it in the context of a larger or illuminating text. Consider this one big chunk of context.
