via the Toronto Star (the rest of the story talks about other sports),
On the eve of the Stanley Cup final, ESPN’s The Sports Reporters made not one mention of hockey. Even Toronto product John Saunders, who often is the lone NHL voice, ignored the series. When America’s top sports channel snubs you, you know you’re irrelevant.
That folks, is the main reason why the NHL decided to go in another direction. ESPN recently promotes shows affiliated with ESPN or ABC, other than that, forget about it…

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

And they’ve really been flogging the World Cup on ESPN, which the Sports Reporters didn’t mention, either. At any rate, it will be interesting to see which gets the higher ratings, the World Cup or the Stanley Cup. Neither is exactly appointment viewing in the U.S.
