For most people, it would be an apples vs. apples comparison, the racist comments made by Sean Avery of the L.A. Kings measured against the racist comments made by former NHLer star John Vanbiesbrouck.
But apparently not for the NHL.
To explain.
After a stellar NHL career, Vanbiesbrouck ended up buying and coaching the major junior Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. But he resigned in disgrace and sold his share of the team in March 2003 after he used a derogatory racial term when discussing defenseman Trevor Daley.
