Is Tortorella Right?

from Andrew Gross of Rangers Rants,

Because the coach has been chastising the media lately for not talking enough about Dan Girardi, calling him one of the most underrated players in the NHL. So I figured, even though, in the grand scheme of the Rangers’ sixth straight win tonight it’s not a huge, huge deal, I figured Tortorella would have something to say about his current No.1 defenseman being snubbed from the NHL All-Star ballot. Marc Staal, who has yet to play this season because of a concussion, is on the ballot.

“Oh, this league,” said Tortorella, waving his hand in disgust. “It’s because he’s not pedigree. There’s no pedigree there. Our league is so ass-backwards when it comes to that. It’s not just this year that he’s been underrated. This guy has been a really good player. But if you don’t have the pedigree in this league, they don’t look at you.”
