First and foremost, Rick DiPietro absolutely did not decline to be a part of last night’s introduction ceremony.
Essentially, it was an oversight and here’s what Islanders President Chris Dey had to say on the matter:
“We made a mistake and left Rick out of the introductions. It was nothing intentional, but we are glad to hear that fans wanted to hear him introduced by the team,” Dey said. “We are all looking forward to his return to the lineup.”

Ouch. No better example of how a player fades into invisibility when injured all the time.

I mean...if you were rick dipietro would you really want to suit up and play for the Islanders? He just collects a pro-rated pay check (which is probably over 500k) and pretends to be injured. Free money, free paycheck, no embarrassing 3.45 gaa with a .875 save percentage. Plus he doesn’t have to question how Richard Park still has a job in the NHL and at a salary over the league minimum, Alexei Morozov is jealous.

The Islanders have been the the retarded one in the group for some time now, and I’d say they should all be wearing white hockey helmets for their own safety but they already are !!
