It Is Not Just A Stick Problem

from Jim Hughson at Blogs and Columns at CBC,

We’ve all heard about and seen any number of scoring chances lost or surrendered because a hockey stick explodes at a critical time in a game. And while most are quick to jump on the manufacturers, their engineers or outsourcing production, how about shifting some of the responsibility to the players?

A knowledgeable industry insider suggests that most sticks are being made to the specifications of the players, who want them lighter and more responsive - qualities that make the sticks more vulnerable.

That’s 1000% true.  Sergei Fedorov and some players quite literally tell their stick manufacturers to ditch the fibreglass and shielding and just send them stiff graphite sticks that can snap if you look at them funny, and many, many players ask teams to shave off grams and grams of protection and paint to make their sticks as light and responsive as possible.
