NHL.com has 11 Sidney Crosby related stories or videos on their home page as of five minutes ago.
I can understand that but please NHL.com, do remember there are other players in the league who are having great seasons but not getting the proper attention.
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

Arguably best player in NHL making a return to the game… yea, no need to mention that.
...with 11 articles/videos? Yeah, this guy hasn’t been stroked enough.
Wow, Wing fans need to move on… it was like 3 years ago… lol
4 Cups in 11 seasons. Not to beat a dead horse or anything but…that’s sooo fu*king impressive. But yeah…that one year…

Wingman, you make it sound as if there is just a mention of Crosby.
The home page of NHL.com is strictly controlled byt NHL.com editors.
I just feel it is too much and believe me, it will be even worse tomorrow. Just wait.
Posted by Paul from Motown Area on 11/21/11 at 02:58 AM ET
There were 4 games yesterday, and yet 2 of the 5 rotating “main stories” were “Sid Returns” and “Crosby Returns”. Really? Why is that necessary? One of the two would be fine, and allow them to cover ALL FOUR GAMES.
I understand that Crosby returning is news, but it is not the ONLY news in the NHL, and I think that the editors of the NHL front page really dropped the ball by not including the Vancouver/Ottawa game in the rotating headlines.

I’m pretty sure the NHL didn’t fall apart while he was gone, right? Oh and I don’t think the annoyance with the over the top Crosby-love that the NHL engages in is Red Wing fan exclusive. My guess is if you poll any large group of fans, over the age of twelve and not living in Pittsburgh, you’ll find a fair amount of disgust with the leagues over the top promotion of Mr. Crosby.

Paul, thanks for pointing this out. I guess we should allow Sid to have his day, but still this is pretty ridiculous. I know I will be watching the game tonight, in hopes that Matt Martin will welcome Rosby back to the league (and this is especially likely since he leads the league in hits) although I don’t think he will get much playing time against the Pen’s top line. Maybe Hamonic or Comeau can do the honors. I sincerely wish Thid no harm, especially not another concussion, but you know what I mean…

You will have to explain to me how eleven articles on the front page is nothing more than “mentioning” something.
It would be one thing if it were a website that compiles hockey stories from all over the globe into one easily accessible page, and there were articles from all over, but this is ONE SITE doing it.
If you honestly don’t get that…

The Red Wings are on a two game win streak. They should have 11 articles pointing that out. That’s a much bigger story than the best player/face of the league returning to the game after a 10+ month injury.
I will do something about this, Red Wings fans don’t feel they are getting enough respect. I’m taking to the streets!!

No, we feel the NHL’s man-crush on Sid is now a running joke. If you don’t believe me, then talk to the half-dozen very lukewarm hockey fans I was with this past weekend. One made a comment about how foolish the NHL looks in throwing all their eggs into the Crosby Basket. They find the NHL’s marketing strategy to be slightly below Neanderthal standards.
Crosby does very, very little to ignite interest in the mediocre and non-fan. His whiny personality no doubt is a big reason.

Guys I’ve started a new non-profit organization it’s called Red Wing Fans Are The Most Insecure, Fantastical, And Jealous Fan In All Of Sports or RWFATMIFAJFIAOS for short. We want 11 stories about Pavel Datysuk and his progress in speaking the English language on NHL.com.
LET’S DO IT!!
Posted by tbassett on 11/21/11 at 09:46 AM ET
I won’t lie, I hope he gets blasted and has to sit out again.
Crosby is pretty much the worst thing to happen to the game in decades, and I’m sick of him. The league really blew a great opportunity with him out, they could have broadened appeal to the casual fan.

Posted by Red Winger from work on 11/21/11 at 08:35 AM ET
This, a million times this. Nonfans and casual sports fans routinely look at him and say “What’s the big deal?”. He honestly does not put up impressive numbers compared to his peers (like Gretzky could). He does not score highlight reel goals. He does not dominate a game and take over. They don’t get it either.
Maybe the league should try promoting someone ELSE?

How’s Malkin’s mastery of English progressing?
I will say it’s a good thing for the game to have a premier player return, but this is just a “tad” over the top. If you call that whining or a Wings fan being anti-Crosby…. you’re a fool.

25 game streaks aren’t nothing compared to the 5 season streak zetterberg and his buddy Lidstrom put up together, right?
best hockey player on earth. not sure how anyone can really argue that.
not even sure how people complain crosby is cry-sby. 24/7 HBO you see him get not only hooked, but slashed across the face (i.e. helmet) by Green’s stick on a breakaway, no penalty. would you complain about that non-call if you were in that position, devoting your life to the game you love so deeply? don’t fool yourself and fight the urge to disagree.
go on and sulk in your team’s glory, 11 years and 4 cups, bluh bluh bluh, just can’t accept your team won’t win a cup in at LEAST 15 years. how bout them sharks and the playoffs? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Primis, you have got to be kidding. Type in his name on YouTube and I guarantee you will be refuted 100x over. Yes, the NHL is going overkill with all of the hype, but there is no denying that he is, at the very least, a top 5 player in the game. You guys are far too sensitive about it.
Posted by NHLJeff from Pens fan in Chicago, IL on 11/21/11 at 10:54 AM ET
If I was a Detroit fan I would know enough to stay off most major hockey sites/NHL Network today as there is only one thing they will be covering. Once the game happens and tomorrow comes around it will be back to business as usual.
But when it comes to Sid logic just can’t come into play for a Red Wings fan.
Posted by tbassett on 11/21/11 at 10:55 AM ET
I’d be a lot less disgusted with the Crosby crap if he had actually done something to distinguish himself above the rest of the leagues all-stars. But what really pisses me off about Crosby is that he was anointed the second coming of Wayne Gretzky before he even played a game.
Sid is an outstanding player. I make no bones about that. I might hate his persona, but his production on the ice is undeniable. However, what has Crosby done to distinguish himself from the leagues other all-stars, so much that he deserves 80% of the limelight over all the other players? Kane and Toews/Datsyuk and Zetterberg have Stanley Cups too. How about the Sedins and Ryan Kesler? St. Louis and Stamkos? Those are all great players as well, but they had might as well not exist if you watch the NHL’s national media. This is what 90% of non-Pittsburgh hockey fans hate about Crosby, it has little to do with the ‘09 Cup, but keep on telling yourself that anyway.
To the Pens fans on this thread: Why so defensive? Anytime someone beefs over Sid you guys get all sensitive and upset… Anyway, you can rip Wings fans all you want, and I’ll go as far to say that some of the things you say about us are true. But going on my count the most immature comments are coming from your end, so let me say thanks for having enough respect to have a serious conversation about it. Introspection is the better part of observation…. have that near sightedness check out guys.

Perhaps your intention is to insult the intelligence of your readers by suggesting you have no disdain for the penguins or Crosby. How many personal opinion threads have you posted this week?
Better yet, perhaps your intention is have have KK dedicated to only wing fans?
From this side of things, your intention is not so fuzzy.

Posted by Herm from the office on 11/21/11 at 11:31 AM ET
You know what’s at least as big a discussion point as Crosby’s return (which Penguins fans don’t really seem to want to discuss very much at all)?
The media coverage of Crosby’s return.
Crosby-watch has been a story since he missed game number one and it’s still a story. This isn’t about him, it’s a discussion about the concept of how much coverage any one player deserves and how both the league and the media choose to carry on with it.
This story isn’t about Crosby’s return. If you want that, then Paul already put up that story.
So let’s try discussing this rationally, Penguins fans. NHL.com is league-controlled. What benefit is there of having two different Crosby-is-back stories on their main rotating page?
Does it bother you that his return has been so hyped? Are you concerned that the huge amount of media attention is going to create undue pressure on Crosby or paint a target on him?

Yup. That’s why he welcomed a bunch of bloggers over this past summer that write about teams that are not the Wings.
Like Paul said. “You are wrong, now just move on.”

I understand non-Pens fans frustrations on this, really do.
But it’s comments like “I guess we should allow Sid to have his day” that continue to irritate me.
Once again, it’s perceived as if Crosby, or even the Penguins are doing some sort of self-promotion towards his return.
When in reality, both Sid and the Penguins have done nothing but suppress any speculation as his return got closer.
Personally, I’ll be happy when tonight is out of the way and the Pens start their march towards another Cup….

Only Penguin fans have gotten offended by Paul posting that he wished the NHL would remember that they have 29 other teams to promote. Maybe because the fans of the 29 other teams AGREE with him? Perhaps you should take a step back and try to look at it objectively. Paul did not, in any of his posts in this thread, make any disparaging remarks about Crosby, or say that the Red Wings specifically are being treated unfairly, and yet you and several other Pen fans have attacked Red Wing fans and Paul. I think that speaks volumes about you, and them.

For the record I am not a Pens fan, in fact I cannot stand them.
The ignorance of many of the comments on here is laughable.
My point was simply that the NHL knows what its fan base (and I mean world wide fan base) wants. Everyone has been waiting for this - so it would be quite foolish of them not to push it to the max. To expect anything different from the league would be… a using a very narrow view.
And yes, Crosby returning IS bigger news that the games that were played yesterday… in the big picture. My team played, I watched, I cursed, I moved on. So the 11+ stories did not impair me from getting the info I wanted. And to be honest, anyone who goes to NHL.com to get the best NHL team coverage is out to lunch. It is good for scores, standings and some of the HOT TOPICS of the day but the real stories that matter - the ones about your team come from local media. Remember the NHL decided a few years back to market their players over their teams. I didn’t like the idea then, still don’t. But that is what they are doing, so to see 11+ player specific stories on NHL.com is to be expected… isn’t it? Not saying it is right… but hey, it’s their stove.
On a side not, I am not sure I understand all the comments about Crosby’s persona? Can someone explain (that is a sincere request).

It has nothing to do with the Wings (weird that Pens fans always cry about Wings fans making everything about the Wings, yet it’s all been Pens fans bringing up the Wings in this thread), it has to do with the fact that there were E-F*CKING-LEVEN articles about it. Eleven. There is nowhere near enough information about his return to justify ELEVEN articles.
ELEVEN.
Here’s what we know now that we didn’t know on Friday.
Sid is going to play on Monday.

Why is this so difficult to understand? 1 or 2 stories are completely understandable. 3 or four stories would be questionable, but forgivable. Crosby returning SHOULD be the TOP story. It should NOT be the ONLY story.

I didn’t answer your question because it is irrelevant to the discussion. People keep on trying to make this discussion about Pitt/Det. That isn’t what we are talking about in this thread.
Moreover, its remarkable how I can write an objective remark (I think most people here will back me up on that), or at the very least admit when I’m being biased, and all you can manage to respond with is insults.

This is about the NHL and one of its main sources of information for fans of ALL teams devoting an irresponsible amount of resources to just one of 690 players.

Nothing funnier than a bunch of people calling Wings fans insecure whiners being insecure whiners themselves. Nothing in this post had anything to do with the Wings, none of the Wings fans mentioned anything about the Wings, yet Pens fans made it all about the Wings. Too funny.

@evilpens
Grow up bro. Crosby might be the best player in the league but he’s not so skilled that he’s miles ahead of everyone else. Beyond that he doesn’t carry himself with any class.
His coming back is a big deal, but I think everyone who is able to look at it objectively are wondering why he’s the only NHL player the league wants to promote when there are numerous other greats playing these days.
As far as the “bitter Wings fans hate him because of 09” topic I’ll bring up Joe Sakic as an example. Colorado beat us and was a team that we hated but we still respected Joe for his skill and his class. Crosby only has one of those, so most of us shouldn’t be forced to respect him or be excited about him coming back.
Personally, and maybe I need to grow up too, but I hope he gets knocked out again. But I feel the same way about any goon who intentionally tries to injure opponents.

Its not like the NHL is the only league that does this. It wasn’t that long ago where you couldn’t get away from a Bret Farve story if you tried. I’m not even an NFL fan and I even got sick of it. All you hear about in the NBA is Lebron and Kobe while MLB has been forcing the Yankees and Redsox down our throats it seems like forever. Its the falicy of north american sports leagues. They pick one or two stars, throw their entire marketing machine behind them and hope for the best. IMO, its lazy marketing. Imagine GE concentrating on one or two products. I mean seriously, what fan out west really gives much more than a glancing care at how Crosby or AO are doing? As a Redwing fan, I’m glad Crosby is coming back and wish him well and thats about it. His impact, or lack there of, have very little day to day impact on my team or the teams in which they are battling with.

And what is really annoying about this is that the originally scheduled game on Versus was Boston at Montreal. A game I’d rather see and at this point, I don’t see an alternate channel via Center Ice. So we dump this rivalry for the splendor that is the Islanders versus the Penguins! Classy move.

Wow….this has been a painful read. I feel like I am listening to one of the Presidential debates. Everyone wants to talk, no one wants to listen. Total disconnect.
Truth is that I am a Pens fan. I know there is Sid overkill. It will eventually pass, and guess what? We will survive it and live to all see and hear about our favorite teams.
What really got this stream of comments out of control was comments from Wings fans not just arguing about how overdone the coverage is (we ALL get that) but posting the same moronic comments about him, using the same childish slurs and making this an anti-Sid thing. That gets the Pens fans riled up, and they resort to the same childishness that they usually do when the Wings fans get up their ire.
And Paul, come on….posting about the overkill on a Wing-slanted website? That’s not going to cause a stir, is it?

I find it interesting that you said there is a total disconnect, then continue the disconnect by blaming Red Wing fans for the Pens fans getting riled up. The fact is, tbassett and Evilpens started their anti Red Wings rhetoric before most Red Wing fans here read what Paul posted. One person posted something slightly derogatory towards Crosby, and that excuses everything posted by Pens fans, is that it?
Posted by Forlorn in VA on 11/21/11 at 05:28 PM ET
Not a fan of the childishness from some Pens fans (just trying to keep up with the Wings fans I guess), but what’s this about Pens fans trolling? Last time I checked this site was not dedicated to any particular team, and this particular post didn’t even mention the Wings.
Or maybe that’s the point. The Wings are the playground bully, and the rest of us are just using up your space. Real mature.

Forlorn in VA…....you aren’t reading are you? You didn’t see that I mentioned the childishness of the Pens fans too? You sounds like a politician, spinning things to fit your needs. One person posted something “slightly derogatory” about Crosby? It’s all in “your” perception, isn’t it?

So, anybody know if there is a hockey game on tonight?????
Not a fan of gary’s golden child by any means, and wish no ill health on the lad, but will be interested to see how big the “no fly zone” will be around him tonight and in future games???
I would be willing to bet the islanders will go out of the way to NOT hit him tonight, but eventually he will be in a position to get hit pretty hard, and most likely the result will be similar to Lindros and Savard, and it will not be pretty.

Posted by Flashtastick56 from Milford, CT on 11/21/11 at 11:13 AM ET
I would guess many people would like to watch that ...oh, wait ...you’re inferring Sid is the “best player in the world??”
Sorry, you’re wrong, and that’s part of the reason certain Pens fans act like spoiled children whenever someone refuses to worship at the altar of Sid, created primarily by Bettman and Co.
1) Sid Crosby is not the best hockey player in the world
2) Sid Crosby, while showing improvement, is still a relatively soft hockey player
3) Sid Crosby still lives in Mario’s basement
All the reasons, and more, are why certain Pens fans become apoplectic if the don’t think the entire world loves their captain (one of the worst captains in recent history)
He’ll be hurt again soon enough.
Posted by Red Winger from Sault Ste Marie on 11/21/11 at 06:32 PM ET
VAHockeyFan, my long comment earlier was eaten by my works weird, intermittent internet issues. So in my haste to re-post the gist of it, I left a lot out, maybe that’s why you think I sound like a politician.
You said:
What really got this stream of comments out of control was comments from Wings fans not just arguing about how overdone the coverage is (we ALL get that) but posting the same moronic comments about him, using the same childish slurs and making this an anti-Sid thing. That gets the Pens fans riled up, and they resort to the same childishness that they usually do when the Wings fans get up their ire.
What I was referring to:
~The seventh comment in, yzer19man used the term “Thid”. Up to that point, no one had said anything negative about Crosby or the Penguins, or their fans.
~The Ninth comment in was Evilpens starting his usual bs.
~The tenth was tbassett starting in with bashing the Red Wings fans.
Both of them posted several more times, not contributing to the discussion, but instead just bashing the Red Wing fan base here at Kuklas Korner. Yes, some Red Wing fans responded to them with more negative comments regarding Crosby, however MOST did not. So yes, I took exception to you implying that the cause of all of the brouhaha here was Red Wing fans inciting Pens fans, when it was a handful of Pens fans who continually post inflamatory crap who brought up the Red Wings and tried to turn it into a Detroit vs. Pittsburgh thing.
Then you turn around and say “Not a fan of the childishness from some Pens fans (just trying to keep up with the Wings fans I guess), but what’s this about Pens fans trolling?”
If you want to close your eyes to the fact that there are several KNOWN Pens trolls here, well, that’s your prerogative. Just don’t expect other people to agree with you. The result would have been the same if yzer19man had left out “Thid”, because the Evilpens and his ilk would have been offended anyway, since the thread was not gushing about how awesome Sidney Crosby is. Furthermore, why should I take you seriously when your comment is full of passive aggressive attacks on Red Wing fans?
So I find it interesting that according to you Red Wing fans are at fault for inciting Pens fans…by one person using one word. Then you call all the Red Wing fans bullies, and imply that we are immature. I think you should go read Evilpens and tbassetts posts again, because if we are immature then they are infantile.
And if you think using the terms “Thid” or “Crysby” is remotely equal to the personal attacks employed by Evilpens and other trolls on this site, then I have no use for you.

oh man I do not care who started it.
Here’s the thing though; can we at least all agree to stop saying “wings fans” in response to one wings fan?

1) Sid Crosby is not the best hockey player in the world
Okay, okay…you got me. Best player in the universe. Galaxy, too.
Tell me who was better in those first 41 games last year? I don’t really have the rest of my life to wait for your answerhe answer you’re looking for? Nobody. 1.61 ppg. 32 goals in 41 games. There were TONS of guys scoring at that clip last year, right? Riiiiiiiiiiight.
2) Sid Crosby, while showing improvement, is still a relatively soft hockey player
Soft compared to…? If you say Zetterberg, Datsyuk or Franzen I might pee myself laughing. There’s even a chance I’ll die laughing. Don’t do it to me.
Define “soft,” also. “Best hockey player in the world” are the words you were probably looking to string together.
3) Sid Crosby still lives in Mario’s basement
Nope. Might want to Google that, fella. I mean, since you’re so well versed on all things Sidney Crosby, you should know he moved out of Mario’s house. And that he’s the best hockey player in the world.
Best. In. The. World. Because, the last time he was on the ice…there was nobody better than he was. Period.
