Well, I owe Terry Frei a beer. He bet me a beer I wouldn’t go a week in my twitter ban, and I guess he was right.
Terry also said I would use the occasion to go back on twitter as a ruse to pat myself on the back, that it would be “because the fans demanded it”, etc. He was only partially right. Yeah, I did hear from a bunch of you, that I shouldn’t have given up twitter over some silly incident in Calgary (which proved to be all true). But, really in the scope of things, not an overwhelming number of people. Probably about a hundred.
I’ll go back on twitter, I decided, because the whole Calgary thing was ridiculously overblown and while I had a “teachable moment” perhaps, I probably overreacted to the overreaction that ensued to the whole matter. I didn’t like getting lectured on “ethics” or about the hockey “code” from people who wouldn’t know a wrist shot from a wrist watch, so I took my puck and went home for a while.
Some of the bosses I have also said I shouldn’t have been a twitterquitter, that it’s a great new “tool” to build “traffic” in a “new medium.” So, OK, I’ll do the twitterbug again.
