It’s Not An ASG Without Richards

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

With all due respect to Jeff Carter, Mike Richards has been the first-place Flyers’ best all-around player in the first half of the season and should have been selected to the Eastern Conference all-star team.

But Richards was snubbed. So were teammates Kimmo Timonen and Simon Gagne.

All because the fans made some very dumb selections when they chose the starters. That, coupled with the fact that each team has to be represented, left many deserving players off the team.

And, make no mistake, no one is more deserving than Richards, who has excelled on the power play, penalty kill and even-strength situations.

With all due respect, Mike Richards has NOT been the Flyers’ best player.

I have both Carter and Richards in one particular fantasy league of mine (for a time I also had Gagne along with them).  I watch a lot of their games, and I see their stat lines after every game since I have vested interest.

I’m not saying Richards is no good, but no… Carter is head and shoulders above everyone else on that team right now.  And it makes for a very feeble argument otherwise in a poor attempt to try to make a case for Richards to be there too.  ALl you have to do is watch a few games to see Carter’s level of play.

And Gagne and Timonen don’t belong.

Oh come on.  Even if every team didn’t have to be represented, the Flyers still wouldn’t have had 4 players named to the All-Star team.
