It’s Official - Crawford New Dallas Coach

from the Dallas Stars,

Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk announced Thursday that the club has hired Marc Crawford as the 20th head coach in franchise history, and has relieved Dave Tippett of his head coaching duties. Crawford will be formally introduced at a press conference this afternoon at American Airlines Center.

added 11:56am, from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,

I just got off the phone with Dave Tippett, and he was philosophical.

“It’s just what you sign up for as a coach, and I don’t think you can ever let it get to you,’’ he said. ``In this business, you have to focus on the job at hand and do it to the best of your ability. Then, if you are moved on, you have to see that as an opportunity. When one door closes, another one opens.”

Tippett said he will head to his summer home in Noirthern Minnesota today and will try to take a step back from the situation and breathe a little bit.

And the long, downward spiral in Dallas continues…

Bad move...Crawford is not a very good coach.  Every team he has coached since the Bertuzzi incident has been a disaster (Canucks and Kings) and the only really good team he has coached is the Avs, more than ten years ago.

Crawford = washed up and (unfortunately) the Stars are going down the drain with him.

I call firing Bret Hull and hiring Marc Crawford a wash...which leaves them right back where they started (out of the playoffs).  I just hope the fanbase in Dallas will hold on if the team struggles for a lengthy stretch of seasons…

When are these GM’s & Owners going to stop recycling bad coaches who continue to get fired

Yikes, why?!?!

But I will echo the HNIC comment.  Good riddance.

Now, who’s going to help me out by hiring Craig Simpson and taking him off the air?  Ugh…

Some franchises “get it” in terms of coaching.  Wings (Babcock), Pens (Bylsma), Caps (Boudreau), Philly (Stevens), Anaheim (Carlyle)… they seem to understand that while experience is a good thing, the same old retreads are not.  This was a problem in the NFL for at least a decade until the past few years, and now younger coaches seem to be getting a shot.  How else could we explain Dave Wannstedt continuing to find work?  Or Marty Schottenheimer?

The NHL seems to slowly be realizing this, going with coaches who are either younger (Bylsma, Babcock, Stevens) or from the AHL ranks (Boudreau, Carlyle), or both.  Still, there will always be franchises out there looking to hire a Sutter, a Jacque (Martin, Lemaire), or Mike Keenan.  I’m not saying these guys aren’t good coaches, but did Calgary really think Mike Keenan was going to get them all the way to the top??

I think they have too much talent for that to happen.  Two guys (Richards, Ribiero) who can be top line pivots, a good heart-and-soul guy in Brendan Morrow.  Louie Eriksson is the best goal scorer in the NHL you never hear anything about (36 goals and an unbelievable 20.2% shooting %).  They’ve got some up-and-comers in Brunnstrom, Neal (and still in the pipeline, Jamie Benn), and if Zubov can come back healthy he’s far and away a better d-man than his countryman, Gonchar.

Their season this year was destroyed by injuries.  Everyone has injuries, of course, but not every team has their #1 center break both wrists, their #1 d-man have two hip surgeries, their best defensive forward limited to 50 games and their captain and arguably best all-around player (save Zubov) limited to 18 due to a catastrophic knee injury.  Oh, I almost forgot to mention Marty Turco’s psychological injury.  Someone managed to convince him that every arena was the JLA… and pitifulness ensued.

They’ll bounce back and be a playoff team this year an for a few years to come.  With Crawford around, though, they no longer scare me as a team likely to give Detroit a run for their money each of the next 3-4 years.

How perfect is this for Wings fans?  The two teams that should scare us the most in the West (outside of Anaheim) have Marc Crawford and Joel Quenneville as their head coaches.  It’s an amazing situation for us for a few years to come!

Tippet won’t be out of work long - and thank goodness Crawford is off the air!

Should we get together a collection to send Dallas a thank-you bouquet courtesy of hockey fans collective eardrums?  LOL

Yep your right, The Steelers Hired Mike Tomlin & in his 2nd season won the Superbowl

Ottawa was MUCH better with Clouston or however you spell his name

They could of hired Todd Richards of SJ who will most likely end up with the Wild, as he & Chuck Fletcher have a connection with the Pens

Fletcher hired him as baby Pens coach when he & Ray Shero came in
