Jack Edwards is an idiot whose mouth got him fired/removed from ESPN because he couldn’t stop saying stupid things during soccer matches..

I wasn’t surprised when he ended up in Homerville—AKA Boston working NESN games.  NESN broadcasts are terrible.  The annoucners are terrible.  The studio analysts are terrible.  NESN as a whole is just terrible.

it’s even worse than that, primis, the eejit only notices when the talentless boston player punches the equally talentless montreal player.  whenever anyone lands a punch on a bruin, it’s never counted by this classless loser.  i agree.  nesn is the land of idiots.  debase the game.  the most homer network in all of sports.  check out red sox baseball with these losers.  ugh.

Are you kidding?  NESN broadcasts are great!  Yeah they’re homers… so what?  It’s NESN, not NBC.  The only people watching are Bruins fans, so who cares if the announcers are homers?

Edwards has a huge mouth, but at least he’s entertaining.  It’s like a fan somehow scammed his way into being an announcer— a lot of what he says is simply unfiltered truth, at least from his team’s perspective.  The rest of the crew is pretty much of the same mold, but less extravagant.  Who wants a bunch of diplomats on a sports broadcast?

Yeah I was watching this game live and as the fight happened, I kind of tuned Edwards out.  Then what seemed like a minute later, he was still going on about it!  I was a little disgusted by the time he switched to ranting about something else.

In general, I don’t really like the announcers around the league (even my own).  I get Center Ice so perhaps I just watch too many games.  I’ve tried watching with the sound down before, but it’s no better so I am stuck with them!

So it’s basically “My designated pugilist is a better player than your designated pugilist?” or “My 12th forward is more important than your 6th defenseman?”

Give it up Jack, just call the fight.

It’s incorrect to say that Edwards’ bile is only heard by blindly-loyal Bruins fans. I was forced to endure his idiocy earlier this season when a Dallas Stars’ game was only carried on Center Ice via NESN. I think Ralph Strangis and Daryl Reaugh are a well-balanced and entertaining sportscasting duo, and this was just reinforced ten-fold when I had to listen to NESN’s idiots.

Jack Edwards is a tool. I don’t particularly dislike the Bruins, but it’s because of Edwards that I now root against them.

Out of curiosity, Mojo, how would the Dallas team have described the action that night?

“Hmmm…. Ott seems to have flagrantly gone after the knees of Lucic.  Oh my.  Lucic certainly does look agitated, doesn’t he.  Oh goodness, there seems to be a scuffle… it looks like there may be fisticuffs.  Oh goodness gracious, those Bruins certainly look angry!  Look at their frowny faces!”

Edwards said exactly what everyone watching that game was thinking.  Ott was running around talking trash like a girl on the playground, so that’s how Edwards described it.

I wish I had the chance to find out in that particular game. But hey, if you think Edwards is the cheese, don’t take my word for it. Go find out for yourself how bad Bruins fans have it.

After all, it’s not like Google searches reveal that other reasonable folks ever accuse Jack Edwards of being an inflammatory homer.

Of course he’s accused of being an inflammatory homer—that’s what he IS!  I’d never deny that.  But I do question whether it’s a bad thing for a home-network analyst to be flagrantly biased.  I don’t see why NESN would care what the Dallas market thinks about Edwards, I don’t see why the NHL would be worried that fans are getting fired up over a game, and I don’t see any long discussions about those “classy” announcers who are known only to a few thousand people because they just drone for 120 minutes.

Judging by this reaction to Mike Milbury’s rant on Tim Connolly, there’s a lot of pent-up demand for this sort of thing in the league.  The NHL is a product, and Edwards generates interest in the product.  That’s a good thing for everyone involved—if you hate him, all the better because you’re obviously spending a lot of time and emotion thinking about it.

As for Mike Milbury, I dispute that the only way to be entertaining and engaging is to be an insulting jerk. That way lies Sean Avery / Don Cherry types of thinking.

In as much as NESN is viewed locally, you can drink whatever kool-aid you want. It doesn’t mean Edwards isn’t a jackass, only that he’s YOUR jackass. My point is that sometimes NESN’s pablum is forced on others as well, and when that happens, perhaps some disservice is done to the Bruins. I know it was on that particular night.

Being a Pens fan (out of market), I am lucky enough to catch all the games on NHL Center Ice.  However, that means I have to watch a ton of Bob Errey.  Because of that, I’ve learned never to judge a fan based on their announcers.  I don’t mind if an announcer is a homer, I suppose I am a bit myself.  However, when it’s so over the top as to be ridiculous, then it takes me out of the game and makes it annoying for me.

If I find myself arguing with my ‘home announcer’ about a call, I know something is wrong.
