Jagr Disappointed With Nylander Loss

Roman at eNHL.cz (not translated) has a quote from Jagr regarding the loss of Nylander…

Jagr: “I am little disappointed the Rangers were not able to keep Nylander on the team. It was really good for me to play with him.
We played together for 2 years with the Rangers and 1 year in Washington. We worked well together and knew what to expect from one another.”

What can I say except that Nylander got greedy. He was getting $11.5M over 3 years which is what he really should be worth in terms of per year salary. Nylander didn’t even offer to make a counter offer to that deal, it was on the table for 3 months. He now goes out and presumably gets a $5M+ a year contract (and will likely be a bust without Jagr) in a place where he might not even have success. I’m sure Jagr is just as disappointed at Nylander’s actions. Sather isn’t going to overpay to keep anyone after his pre-lockout failures. He also isn’t showing any sentiment to certian players either.

He showed that with getting rid of Lindros (who was the best Ranger during his years there), and Leetch among others.

Only Jagr could follow up the acquisition of Drury and Gomez by complaining that Nylander is gone.

Koho: Don’t take this out of context. He’s a good friend of Nylander, theres some comradery there, of course he would be upset. But I’m sure he isn’t upset at what the organization has done to improve the team.

I am not sure if he is complaining.  Just speaking about his relationship with a linemate who he knew well and will miss.

Dont be wrong! Paul is right - Jagr is not complaining, he is just sorry that his friend leaves. As of Drury and Gomez - he is happy Rangers got two most wanted UFAs. Roman, eNHL.cz

Thanks for chiming in Roman.  As most of us know, whaterver Jagr says always draws a lot of attention.

Who knows, maybe the Rangers will look to trade Jagr now.

It’s hard to garner someone’s true feelings from an article, but as a longtime Penguins fan, I can say that a happy Jagr is a huge boon to your team. An unhappy Jagr can be devastating!

Edmonton?  smile

That would rock hard.  He’d be back with Nylander, and he’d get to play with Hemsky, which apparently is something he’d really like to do.

That being said, no effin’ way.  It’ll never happen; the Rangers’ dressing room is built around Jagr.

Then who would score all the goals?  wink

In another article translated on Blueshirt Bulletin, Jagr acknowledges that for Nylander it was about money.  (He also predicted the Rangers would overpay for Gomez or Drury, who knew they’d overpay for both?)
My main problem with this is that we know Nylander had chemistry with Jagr, and he would have been cheaper than either Gomez or Drury, but with the same production.

Funny that a guy who’s leaving the Rangers is greedy, when the Rangers are THE team known for plucking players away from other teams by immensely overpaying and counting on what - that the player, like almost everybody on this planet, wants money. Free agents that come to the Rangers (like Nylander once did) are warmly welcomed, smart hockey players, if they leave, they’re simply “greedy”.
It’s all depending on perspective or what you’d call “flawed vision”, I guess.

Actually, I think it was less about the money and more about the length of the contract.  The Rangers were offering him a 3-year deal, but he really wanted the 4th year.
