Jagr Staying With Rangers

via Blue Notes at Newsday,

Although the Rangers have denied repeated requests from New York writers for a sitdown with general manager Glen Sather, he spoke with Edmonton reporters and said Jaromir Jagr would not be traded, and that he would like to resign both Jagr and Sean Avery.

Anyone who thought Jagr was going to get traded, raise your hand!

What is Sather’s problem with the NY media?  His comments in the Blue Notes blog are from an article in an Edmonton paper.  Is Sather so behind-the-times that he didn’t realize that NY fans and reporters would easily find out about his talk with the Edmonton press?  He’s not hiding any info by talking to out-of-towners, and he’s just pissing off the locals and the fans.

With that said, I hope he does sign Jagr next year, though only for a much smaller salary.  That’s up to Jagr though.  I’m hoping for a Selanne-like bounce-back season.  I can dream, can’t I?

I though, and had no problem with, Jagr getting traded until a week ago.  They have finally seemed to get a line together that works for him.  Since he has been playing with Avery and Dubinski everything is great in Gotham again.  He looks happy and was even very unselfish with a 5-0 lead last night trying to get Dubinski a goal.  Hopefully this continues for 3 more months.  As for next season, cap room could be an issue,  but hopefully something can be worked out.

And what’s up with Malik all of a sudden?  Last night he has a goal and an assist and they were joking on the bench that he needs to get in a fight for the Gordie Howe hat trick.
