James Wisniewski Takes A Puck To The Chest

via Al Balderas of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,

Wisniewski was elbowed in the mouth by Tomas Holmstrom at about the same time he blocked Pavel Datsyuk’s shot with his chest. Wisniewski was taken to UCI Medical Center (because of the shot to his chest) for precautionary reasons. He left the game on a stretcher, bleeding from his mouth (because of the elbow).

Not really sure if I agree with that description.

added 8:24am, After tests tonight at UCI Medical Center in Orange County, Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski has been diagnosed with a lung contusion. He will remain overnight at the hospital as a precautionary measure and is doing well.

That’s gotta be a cracked rib.

Terribly slanted and misleading description.

The Ducks only play dirty cause all those whiners on the other team started it.  Chrissy Pronger said so.

Hmmm...I didn’t see the elbow but if he was coughing up blood he probably has a punctured lung probably from his broken rib.  Not sure how that happened, there should be padding there especially for a physical defenseman.  Unless he got elbowed out of frame.

Nah...looks like he got windmill slashed by holmstrom around 16 seconds in.

The play was he got hit in the ribs by the puck and continued the play towards the center of the crease.  Homer was attempting to shake off the check by Neidermeyer and when he spun away he elbowed him in the head.  Incidental contact at best…

Yeah, that’s never happened here before. *rolls eyes*

Yea agree with ‘Since71’, the elbow comes a little later… no real intent with it though.  Description is accurate if not misleading.  He left the game because of the puck not the halfhearted elbow for sure.

from the Ducks just a few minutes ago…

Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski is expected to be released from UCI Medical Center in Orange County tomorrow morning. He’s being held today as a standard medical precaution after being diagnosed with a lung contusion. Wisniewski suffered the injury after being struck by the puck in the chest area last night vs. Detroit.

Again from the Ducks,

Wisniewski has since been cleared by doctors at UCI Medical Center. He was released from hospital this afternoon.
No time-table has been set for his return to action.
