from Tim Wharnsby of the Globe and Mail,
If this was his last hurrah at the Air Canada Centre, Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Curtis Joseph found a way to maintain his popularity with the Leafs’ faithful.
Joseph was pressed into action after starting goalie Martin Gerber was tossed late in the game against the Washington Capitals last night for bumping into an official. Joseph not only stopped all nine shots he faced in the final minute of regulation time, but also the Capitals’ three shootout attempts to give the Leafs a 3-2 victory.
In the shootout, Joseph stopped Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin and Alexander Ovechkin, who scored his 51st goal in the second period. Joseph was chosen first star for his brief but effective outing.
continued and watch below the shoving incident with Gerber and the referee…

That makes more sense Ryan, thanks for the info. Honestly didn’t look like there was anything in the shove, they were all coming out of the scrum of players and he was just breathing down the ref’s neck. But yeah, crazy to shoot the puck at the ref, gotta be dumb to do that.

As a fan I think it would be nice if they published the punishment the referee’s face after making a call like that. Ridiculous.

Tssk..Tsssk...shame on Gerber pushing the referee. Okay, maybe I’m not that sad about the referee after all since CuJo was on net. Oh, you know what I mean. http://www.chicshockey.com

I don’t like the goal call any more then Gerber does, but you can’t do that.
Whatev, maybe this will help the Leafs get a better draft pick.

Gerber also shot the puck at the refs during the review, which wasn’t shown in this video. TSN claimed after the game that he was kicked out for that offence, which results in a 3 game suspension, and not for making contact with the refs, which would have been a 10 game suspension.
So that little bump wasn’t the reason he was ejected.
