JSG- The Difference Maker

from the Buffalo News,

They stood 180 feet apart Monday night, but let’s just call it 3,000 miles. That was the distance separating Anaheim Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere from Ottawa Senators netminder Ray Emery when the postseason began. The Stanley Cup finals did little to close the gap.
You look at Giguere and see an allworld goalie. He’s 30 years old, calm, unflappable, dependable. You look at Emery and find a guy from another planet, a newbie still finding his way, a mistake waiting to happen. Eventually, for better or worse, every player is exposed in the playoffs.

Emery’s not near as bad as this writer points out. His penchant for diving bothers me, but even Hasak does a bit of that. It would probably help Emery a lot if Ottawa didn’t give up as many odd-man rushes, and lose guys in their own zone. Of course, I’m not taking anything away from JSG. He definitely weathered the storm for the Ducks when they came out flat in the first period.

JSG is definitely better, but for a goalie with so little previous playoff experience Emery has done well.

As said, it would help if Ottawa didn’t turn over the puck so much.  Odd man rushes make even the best goalie look bad sometimes.

The best goalies stop odd man rushes sometimes.  Emery has numerous ‘softies’ this round and his gaping five hole is to blame.
