Kaberle = Pronger?

from Paul Hunter of the Toronto Star,
Toronto general manager Brian Burke has repeatedly said he’d have to be blown away by an offer in order to trade the smooth-skating Kaberle before Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline.
He defined that further today.
“It would be a minimum of a first-round pick, a guy that can play on our team right now and a top prospect,” said Burke in a conference call with reporters.
Burke said he wouldn’t divulge the entire details but he would be looking for a return similar to what he gave up to acquire Chris Pronger in 2006 when he was Anaheim’s GM.

I think you missed the point....the point is Burke, in a trade situation is valueing Kaberle the same as he would Chris Pronger. Which much like Antropov for a first round pick, is over-valued.

he would be looking for a return similar to what he gave up to acquire Chris Pronger in 2006 when he was Anaheim’s GM.
And just to refresh everyone’s memory, the trade package back then was:
Joffrey Lupul
Ladislav Smid
1st round pick 2007
2nd round pick 2008
plus a conditional extra 1st round pick if the Ducks made the cup finals in a three-year window (which happened).
Enjoy not trading Kaberle, Burkie!

If Burke got a #1 and a prospect for Kaberle he should do a freaking dance.

Alas, I did miss the point.
Pronger is how old? His best years are behind him. Kaberle doesn’t have the top end talent of Pronger, but is still in his prime, with two more years on his contract. I could see them going at close to the same price.

Alas, I did miss the point.
I’m thinking yes. Burke is talking about the 2006 trade return for Chris Pronger, back when Pronger was 31 years old. Kaberle turns 31 next week.
I certainly hope that Burkie is done talking about future trade returns for Chris Pronger—unless he’s willing to offer something concrete, I don’t really care what he thinks Pronger’s currently worth on the trade market.

karina-
i think you missed the point a second time.
he is not saying they have the same trade value at the present time. burke is saying he expects kaberle to get the same value that burke gave up to get pronger back when he traded for him.
which is why people think that is way too much because
pronger then >>> kaberle now

Two things:
One, Brian Burke himself has said that it doesn’t make sense for him to bring Pronger to TO.
Two: In the list of ten teams that Kaberle has agreed to be traded to, none are in the western conference.
Could the sports journalists in Toronto now please stop writing about this?
